if gamboa had been using that new lawyer he has now, we wouldn't have none of this mess
A little bit of light behind the Gamboa situation

I imagine it's common practice. It allows promoters to exert even greater control over their unsophisticated athletes. The fighters usually come to them with neither money of their own ("You don't have a lawyer? Don't worry, we'll use mine!"), nor the understanding that legal affairs are best handled by qualified professionals. By the time the fighters become experienced enough to understand how things work, the damage has been done.Comment

they messed up gamboa's career, i rememeber when my stepdad (american) first saw gamboa fight on hbo vs ramirez the first thing he told me was the kid has talent, hopefully he will surround himself with a bunch of stand up guys that won't steal his money. I told him something like oh dont worry he has decubas he is set!!!! lmao this is so sad man, i wish he would've had better adviceComment

Bahhh shhhh. Gamboa is shook, SCARED of Rios that's a fact. You can't defend him when he pussied out of the fight. Facts are facts and gamboa ran scared and became the biggest joke in the sport.

I'm certainly not a fan of the Mayweathers, but I'll say this about Floyd: He has managed to become the master of his own destiny and has maximized his earning potential as any sane person would like to do. (Anyone that doesn't appreciate that is just hating.) Gamboa would do well to take that page from the Mayweather playbook. I hope that Yuri's association with "Money" sharpens his understanding of the boxing biz. (And I hope I don't regret those words! lol)Comment

LOL you honestly believe after Khan vs Bradley if Bradley would have won Shaw would have let him walk? Your crazy if you really believe that!Shaw was not offering an extension for the Bradley Khan fight. That is absolutely false. They had come to the point where he was willing to let Bradley walk after.
Also, Gamboa needs to stop playing the victim card. The story might be true, but he still came to an agreement with Top Rank and all the parties involved. They have a binding contract and he's stuck to that. He needs to fight and would be ****** not to.
I can understand his frustrations if the contract was extended, but they have a binding agreement. This is setting an awful precedent too and HBO needs to take a hardline to make sure boxers never do this again.
As for Gamboa is has nothing to do with Playing "THE VICTIM" Boxing just so happen to be a very Corrupt and Dirty Business and it can go from "THE PROMOTER AND MANAGER WORKING FOR YOU" to "YOU WORKING FOR THE PROMOTER AND YOUR MANAGER" with out most fighters even knowing it, especially when it comes to fighters who come from Poor Countries and did not have much, you give them a nice car and a nice Condo of course they are going to be happy until someone comes along and show them and tell them what they "REALLY SHOULD BE MAKING"
Bottom Line, if Top Rank is serious bout giving the fan what they want, then forget going forward with these Press Conferences without Gamboa, get Gamboa on the Phone or in Top Rank Office and try to work this thing out...instead of publicly offering a extra $100K I guess to try and bait him into signing off for this fightComment

its a tough situation but the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against gamboa if he signed a contract. he would have to prove that he did so under duress, or overwhelmingly uneven bargaining power or either because of a misrepresentation. its possible but not easy. he better make sure his lawyer is top notch. hes gonna need it.Comment

some today also told me thatgamboa was pissed when oner fired salas and hired steward. i am not sure if this is true though.I'm certainly not a fan of the Mayweathers, but I'll say this about Floyd: He has managed to become the master of his own destiny and has maximized his earning potential as any sane person would like to do. (Anyone that doesn't appreciate that is just hating.) Gamboa would do well to take that page from the Mayweather playbook. According to steward there is nothing signed with gamboa and he is not training him.Comment
