I was anticipating the fight way more than those two. No way Pacquaio loses to Bradley and Cotto won't stand much of a chance against Mayweather (I am a fan, but I am also realistic about this).
Rios-Gamboa had the chance to go in every direction. The bigger Rios destroying the smaller guy who comes up 2 weight classes at once, Gamboa surprising Rios with his speed, technique and punching power or even a close war and fight of the year material. A damn shame it probably won't happen now...

I'm disgusted at this whole thing from so many different angles.

      1. Gamboa was taken advantage of.

      2. He's looking like the bad guy when he's a victim.

      3. I've gotta hear all manner of fools proclaim that Yuri's "scared."

In the end, to preserve his reputation, to smooth things over with the fans, and to avoid legal ramifications, Gamboa might be forced to choke on a contract he never dreamed of....

He's taken advantage of because he's not paying attention.

even if that is true, he still deserves to get much of the blame. he let himself get represented by a crook who took advantage of him. but he knew very well that top rank made the fight and HBO already scheduled it. if he has problems with oner, he should've brought it up from the start. but he didn't...instead he let top rank announce the fight and start selling tickets. he only brought up the problem at the day of presscon by not showing up. that's not the way to do it and it's ****** on his part.

No amount of justification will you repair the damage Gamboa did to this fight. He's looking like a clown right now. He had plenty of time to correct any abnormality of the agreement. He waited until people's time and money have been wasted. Fact that he's still not coming out to correct it, ie, make public apologies, means he's just another clown who thinks he's bigger than the sport.

this is what promoters do...basically they try to get you in a "NEVER ENDING SLAVE DEAL" same BS with Timothy Bradley and Gary Shaw...fans just assumed that Bradley ducked Khan...but what they don't express enough is how if Bradley would have took the fight with Khan, it would have been a automatic Contract Extension with Shaw for yet ANOTHER FIGHT

Same thing with Mayweather and Bob Arum, if he would have taken the Margarito fight, that to would have also EXTENDED HIS CONTRACT WITH ARUM, meaning that Mayweather vs De La Hoya would of NEVER HAPPENED!

Fans need to open their eyes more and understand that a lot of times fight not happening is actually out of the fighters hands, a lot of times it is the Managers and Promoters RUINING FIGHTS with their Corruption and GREED! Arum did it 3 times with Dan Goossen when they tried to come together and make the Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik fight

I KNOW Gamboa has no type of fear what so ever when it comes to Rios, what Top Rank is doing is using Rios to BAIT Gamboa into signing a BS CONTRACT...just like they used Margarito to BAIT MAYWEATHER into not leaving Top Rank and signing a BS CONTRACT!

I always had concerns and never understood why Cuban fighters all Run to Oner...the guy who FIX FIGHTS IN GERMANY ALL THE TIME he is extremely Corrupt!

I know that, you know that and Gamboa might even know that, since he claims he never signed a contract.

And, to be fair, Yuri is forced to trust, at least to some extent, people he deems more sophisticated in the business of boxing. If the kid made a mistake, it's quite understandable. He's a fat fish swimming in shark-infested waters.

Great post. I'm not familiar with all the details you mentioned regarding those athletes, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to understand that a lot of shenanigans go on behind-the-scenes, preventing fighters from taking on certain matches.

As for Gamboa being "scared," I would find that one funny, except that you hear it so often that it gets annoying. It's such a silly thing to say.
