It's showing yourself up, that you had to display just that comment by White. Apart from exhibiting White's total ignorance and lack of respect for the most prominent and influential boxing journalist around, it shows your own lamentable ignorance in thinking that any comment by White is worth the time to read it. It seems that Merchant must have written or spoken a few "home truths" to or about White and UFC. What would anyone expect from the organizer of back alley scuffles between grown men, which makes him untold millions whilst paying the real earners peanuts.

One thing this article about Mayweather is honest about, for a miracle, is that they actually admit that they were the ones who instigated the Mayweather comment which they seemed to think was worth a complete (empty) article and headline. They are so utterly poverty stricken for real news that they resort to this trashy trick. They knew that Mayweather wouldn't resist slandering Merchant, or indeed anyone he feels doesn't love him.

That of course, doesn't include you.

In.order for it to br slander it has to be false. Its most certainly not false. So there's no slander.

That explains why you don't either see or understand his meaning. True boxing guys do understand, and HBO knows too that Merchant is deeply appreciated by viewers.

You wouldn't know, because it was before you came into boxing, but just a year or two ago, Merchant's contract was expired and HBO were intending to retire him. They brought Kellerman in. But there was such a huge outcry by boxing aficianados all over the world that they retracted their intentions and instituted to arrangement you see now.

As I said, this was before you "took up" your eagerly looked for and highly educated boxing commentary.

The one quote from Larry that will always stick out in my mind for whatever reason is the Hopkins vs Pavlik fight. It went something along these lines:

"Yesterday Bernard Hopkins said that this fight would be between a two construction workers for a sandwich. Will it be a turkey sandwich, or a roast beef sandwich?"

And then he chuckles at his own joke. Still to this day, I don't understand what he was talking about, and this was a few years ago. Larry has long been sliding down the slope since then.



But seriously, what does Larry bring to boxing that either enhances our viewing experience or bring in new fans?

I can tell you what he meant, maybe it's a bit deep. A "turkey" means a washout, a lousy fight.

Exactly. Merchant was a journalist, way before he became a broadcaster. He's not here to appeal to hood stars out there, go find another hero, like Rick Ross if that's your goal. Merchant is smart and witty, and it's over a lot of peoples' heads, but he's good at what he does. He's not intimidated by big egos because frankly he's seen it all.

Merchant has always treated certain fighters like s**t and sometimes is rude doing the interviews. I am glad fighters like Mayweather and Hopkins have lashed out on him. I remember how he used to treat Mayweather when he was just starting to become a star. Floyd would beat the fighters that HBO would put in front of him and all Larry would say is there's not a lot of people in the arena Floyd.He would make him feel like s**t but now that Floyd is on top. The tables have turned and now Larry is doing the a** kissing now.

I think Merchant just expects Floyd to be challenging himself so he can reach his potential. Admittedly, there is bad blood, but I don't think Merchant has always had it in for Floyd. Also, when i say "reach his potential", I don't mean that he's not already amazingly talented, but he definitely could've tested himself more in the past, which is what frustrated Merchant. He has fought a lot of great fighters out of their primes as well. I suspect that people will add Cotto to that list should Floyd overcome him, though I'm a big Cotto fan and I have a feeling that he's begun a second wind in his career and will test Floyd at the very least.

Bottom line - Merchant deserves respect. He's been a great analyst and I always enjoy listening to his colour commentary.

I disagree strongly. I think Atlas is full of **** to be honest. He's very passionate, but doesn't make sense half of the time. Listening to him on Fight Night was the final straw for me as far as he's concerned.
