I agree but I would add PAC too. Jmm has not convincingly beaten PAC (scorecards or not)
Jmm got hurt by juan Diaz, so grusler saying you need a defense, yes you do but all fighters can get hurt. Jmm got hurt vs katsidis too.
Mayweather would compete yes.Comment

Marquez claims to his greatness was his draw and 2 losses against Pacquio. Lmao! Let us say he won the last fight against Pacquaio, that is? LOL! FLOYD last 5 fights was against against Oscar, Hatton, Mosley in which were sent by Pacquaio into retirement and beat the hell out of them, while Marquez was weight cheated by Floyd and Ortiz was sucker punched to victory. LMAO! THE GREATEST OF THIS ERA! LOL!Last edited by straightleft; 03-01-2012, 08:50 AM.Comment

JMM lacks in every physical category to Pac and yet arguably beat him twice, and even if you think Pac won they were razor close. Pac survives mostly on his physical ability where as JMM is the last of the true great counter punchers along with Mayweather who I consider the most complete fighter I have ever seen.
I agree with McGirt and understand where he's coming from. I don't think it's a lack of respect for Pac, he's just looking at it from a purist point of view.Comment

I think the way he's looking at it is from the perspective of pure boxing skill. Pac is an amazing talent, there's no denying that. He is a freak of nature when it comes to his physical ability but let's be real here for a second, if he had half the boxing skill of JMM, he would have blown him out the water.

Why not pacquiao? I dont understand. He has 2 bad years in terms of level of opposition. Surely, that should not overshadow what he did in the previous ones.
But that is his opinion though.Comment

What Buddy McGirt is saying here is obviously wrong.
Pacquaio is obviously one of the greats of this era. That is an irrefutable fact.
It doesn't matter that McGirt is a trainer, and has been in the Boxing game a long time. He's wrong.
What it does show, on the other hand, is that just because your part of the Boxing world it doesn't automatically make your view on things gospel, or even logical for that matter.
I always see "So and so >>>> Guys on a message board". To be honest, that's not always the case. And here is an obvious example.
It's still funny to see the Pacquaio fans switch it up thoughWhen someone praises Pacquaio it's absolute gospel but when it's the other way around it soon changes.

the first two pacquiao fights were very close. manny was given a decision in the second (with which you cannot argue was a robbery, given how close the fight was,) and they drew in the first. close fights.
the third fight was a robbery
i have a hard time giving pacquiao anything more than four rounds, and most of the marquez rounds are frankly easy to score.
very few (if any,) media members at ringside scored the fight for pacquiao
marquez had a great career as a FW and then became a lightweight and a true warrior late in his career long after most smaller guys have stopped fighting
he was in gunfights against katsidis and diaz because he was:
a: on the darkside or thereabouts of 35
b: in with two very good fighters against the right style (marquez was to box and move and these guys knew it.)
c: letting these guys get close and beating the tar out of them by the end of the fight
there are plenty of great fighters from this generation
no order (save perhaps chin?)
toney
hopkins
de la hoya
trinidad
jones
i think mcgurt is perhaps overreacting to the recent pacquiao-marquez fight, which was by far the most one sided of the three fights.
if he thinks that fight proves to him once and for all that marquez is the greater fighter then so be it
everybody has an opinion.Last edited by New England; 03-01-2012, 09:50 AM.Comment

I would say DLH before that and Leonard before that. I'm a huge fan of Chavez Sr. but I wouldn't put him in that category the way McGirt was describing. If that makes any sense.Comment
