I'm saying this as a person that followed everything that went down at that time;

Mayweather was offered Margarito as early as when he fought Zab Judah.

He could have easily fought Margarito instead of both Judah and Baldomir, who, face it, would have been a better win for him than those two.

I understand the logic in fighting Judah, who he had a verbal agreement with a year prior, and he honoured that. I understand that.

I also understand the logic on why he then chose to fight Baldomir over Margarito, who, was the Lineal Champion at the time.

But, at the same time, the fact is Margarito could have been chosen and was available as an opponent for both of those fights. And, Margarito would have been a better win, and tougher opponent and a bigger risk than both of those fights.

But, he chose Judah and then Baldomir instead.

Like I said, do I blame him? Not really. He didn't want to jeopardize what he worked so hard for; the Oscar fight.

But the fact is, he chose to fight those fighters when Margarito, a tougher, bigger risk and more legit fighter was available.

What you are stating is an opinion while I am stating facts and what exactly happened. Prior to Zab being beat by Baldomir (when Floyd agreed to fight him) he was the Undisputed WW champion and Margarito was not. Baldomir beat Zab and then became the Lineal Champion at WW. Those two names alone at the time were bigger than Margarito's. How do you know Margarito was tougher than both? He lost to Paul Williams right after he called out Floyd AND couldn't handle Daniel Santos at 147 or 154. Floyd moved up to 154 and beat Oscar. In my opinion Oscar at 154 would have put Margarito's head to bed. Bigger risk? Margarito got caught cheating and could have been doing it for a long time. Dude was/is an overrated fighter. A lil technical boxing skill and he can be beat. Paul Williams showed that. I don't understand how people can stay crapping on Baldomir when Margarito didn't even do it.

he was dealing with injuries did you watch the Hatton 24/7 when Floyd was going to different doctors? he said his body was falling apart which is why he was going retire from the sport and won't let the sport retire him

meaning being physically unable to fight he injuries were serious or at least he thought so

Floyd did not dodged Cotto in 07-08, Cotto was just lucky that he lived too far or else he would have gotten some. You see Floyd was world CHAMPION and he Cotto....ehhh isn't Puerto Rico part of this world. Nevermind...

Ummm, I'm not sure if you know this or not, but Cotto of late 2007 early 2008 was a beast. Shane Mosley was the only fighter to finish the fight coming forward against Cotto; which was a HUGE accomplishment at the time.

I'm sure you'll say "But Cotto was hurt by Zab Judah, Demarcus Corely, and Shane Mosley". But guess what? So was Mayweather.

Don't wait until after Cotto gets beat by plaster man and a man that's refused PED testing for 2 years to act like he wasn't a force to be reckoned with at the time.

To those who say "But Cotto never beat anyone" then begin discreditiing all his opponents. No just no; if you followed the sport "at the time", you'll know why.

Mayweather was offered the Margarito fight whilst he was still at Top Rank.

I don't think anyone is claiming Mayweather ducked Margarito to fight Oscar.

He avoided him in 06, when he fought Judah, then Baldomir instead.

Like I said, I understand the reasoning to why he fought Judah and Baldomir. I get it.

Everyone knows and knew then that Margarito was the better, tougher, more risky fight to take at that point. Instead of Judah and Baldomir. Despite the fact they were former and current Lineal Champions.

Margarito was the best option out their for Mayweather and he instead chose Judah and Baldomir, this is a fact.

Was Mayweather scared of Margarito? No, I don't think so.

Did Mayweather willingly avoid him? He did. It's abudently clear.

For whatever the reason, he chose not to fight him, and fought two easier opponents instead. It doesn't matter how you slice it.

Yes and no, I believe he wanted a break anyway around that time but was happy to sit back and let Cotto fight Margarito/lose some of his prime.
