This is from post #357. I think it answers your question:

The comment is about Lin getting hype because he is asian. Lin is a good player, but his accomplishments are seen as otherwordly by the media because as an instituiton the media limits what people can excel at based on their race, gender, and cultural heritage.

Floyd says ESPN is giving Lin more premature hype than they would if he were an African-American, FLOYD IS SO RACIST AGAINST ASIAN!!!! But, I thought this wasn't about race?
Great post, I don't see anything he said that is racist, he's basically telling everyone the truth....Lin is different than 90% of the NBA, the media has been looking for the next great white hype since Larry Bird....Lin is not black and although his story is cool, people need to realize that this guy was picked up by a couple of NBA franchises already, so its not like he was some scrub who all of a sudden became NBA worthy. Unfortunately he didn't work in the other teams systems, alas enter the pick and roll, with floor spacing, Lin has wide open lanes, which account for easier passes, getting into the lane, ask Felton he had his best season under this offense....Lin is shooting 51% from field, but 17% from beyond the arc, he's shooting a ton too....once Amare(gets legs) and Melo get back, he'll be avg'ing 10ppg, because he won't be shooting 20+ times. Also once scouts start seeing his weaknesses he will have a much tougher time. Until then its a good story, but like Tebow the hype is getting out of hand.

Big Dunn when Lin was still with GS they did mention him being a Harvard grad. Sure they mite not mention about it as much as they do now because who was Lin back then? A nobody, he would come in for a few minute then back on the bench. Not sure what ur point was with the they didn't metion him being a Harvard grad when we was with golden state? All I'm saying is why does floyd have to always bring race into this? Hbo is not giving me enough love because their racist and now with this Lin thing.

hmmm it doesnt really answer what i asked.

What youre saying is people are interested to see what hes doing because its odd. What im saying is these other people (white black hispanic etc) are actually loving him, becoming fans and its wayyyyy past just being interested. So why would him being asian have anything to do with it?

I didnt see asians going gaga when Tiger woods was coming up. Why? Its not like all people of all races were jumping on the bandwagon when he was doing it. But people of all races in droves are going gaga over Lin.

Reading a lot of these replies from the one that sides with what floyd said Seems like u guys is tryin to make it seem like Americans is looking for a hero so when Lin came along the hype was on. Pleaseeee there's a lot of black players that got all these attention when it was their time to shine. It seems like a lot of u dislike the fact that Lin is being showcase and him being Asian makes it worst to u guys.

I think its because he sees things through that prism and the media reports through that prism. I agree with him to a certain extent. Unfortunately, floyd seems to see EVERYTHING through this prism. which of course is wrong.

Floyd is a minority and should be praising Lin. This dude always bringing up asians. First it was Pac rant on Utube and now this. At least he's undefeated.

Oxn I didn't comment on why people are interested in watching him or why they are loving him. I only commented on floyds point about the hype he is receiving from the media.

I am enjoying watching Lin play. But when I hear the stuff about "the 1st 5 games as a starter" and the comparisons to black players that didn't have the benefit of playing for a year against NBA quality players before they started, then I take issue.

Is there anything wrong with that?

This story is definitely about race. Lin and so many people like him that werent black, tattoos, cornrolls, and didnt act like a thug are victims of institutionalized racism in Basketball.

Lin couldnt even get a division I scholarship. As administrators in Golden State have publicly admitted, they didnt even see Lin play in an actual game and if they knew he could play like this they would have kept him. He was 5 days from being cut from the Knicks until two of their stars were out which by luck gave him an opportunity to finally play.

So sure this is about race, but I see the many Lins that werent Lucky enough to get a shot because he wasnt black.
