Comments Thread For: Cotto: Does Pacquiao Fear Me? Mayweather Will Go To 154

I know English is not Cotto's first language but Pacquiao clearly said before and in the ring after the Margarito fight that he will not fight above 147 again... Not to mention he came into that fight at 144.5 at the weigh inn and gave up 17 pounds on fight night. To use Cotto's logic he (Cotto) was afraid of Margarito because he demanded and got a catch weight from Margarito... Cotto needs to accept the fact that Manny has moved up so much and realized before and after Margarito that anything above 147 was too much. If not why would anybody show up at 144.5 for a 150 pound fight???? Cotto needs to accept the fact that he got his a$$ whipped and move on... But if a guys shows up at 144.5 for a 150 fight against someone as big as Margarito it's abvious 147 is and should be that person's limit.... How aften in boxing does someone come in 5.5 pounds under a weight limit???

I just don't know. If Floyd fights Cotto at 150lbs, then Floyd's fighting Pac's leftovers at a catchweight, ACCORDING TO FLOYD'S OWN logic (not mine FYI).Two of the biggest things Floyd has criticized Pac for in the past.
IF Floyd does fight Cotto, I highly doubt that it would be at 154lbs. though. IF, and that's a big IF, Floyd fights Cotto, I'm fairly certain it wouldn't be any higher than 150lbs. If he fights Cotto at 154lbs., as someone else suggested, he puts himself in the position of "Why not Sergio at 154lbs?" etc. etc.
I just don't see it happening. Cotto will probably give in the end to a rematch with Pac at 147lbs, but I really hope I'm wrong. I would much rather see Cotto fight Alvarez, but he may end up losing that negotiation to Mayweather. Obviously FMJ and Pac aren't fighting. I doubt FMJ fights Cotto (for above reasons) and Cotto says he's not going to bend to 147lbs for Pac. That means the next highest paying opponent for Cotto or Mayweather is Canelo Alvarez. So in conclusion, if Mayweather gets Alvarez, Cotto will be out of big $$ options. Eventually Cotto will probably end up giving in to Pac at 147lbs, and we end up with a Pac-Cotto rematch anyway - so this could all just be posturing on Cotto's part. Just my 2 cents worth.
It seems like everything pretty much hinges on who Floyd Mayweather chooses as his next opponent. One person we KNOW he won't be fighting is Manny Pacquiao.
But I agree with you that Arum and Pac will probably offer more money, wanting the rematch with Cotto, and we'll probably see Mayweather-Alvarez and Pacquiao-Cotto II.
And I was NEVER a fan of the "leftover" talk either, but Floyd would go to 154. Leftovers is bulls**t and just because Floyd talked s**t about Manny and said that, some people really took that to heart, which is laughable. Floyd always talks s**t and people read too far into it to be honest. I mean, do people really think Floyd considers Manny a crappy fighter???
Cotto is past his prime-still good. Pretty much the same guy he was in 09' when he fought Manny. If Floyd fights him at 154, he gets his due for that win, but Manny STILL gets more because he did it first. It's the same thing with Hatton. Manny gets his due for beating Hatton, but Floyd gets more because he did it first.
If it's not Mayweather-Pacquiao, than it better be made for NOV or DEC. And in the meantime, we better see Mayweather-Cotto at 154 and Pacquiao-Bradley.
Manny or Floyd:
Cotto at 154: B+
Cotto at 152: B
Cotto at 150: C+/B- at the highest
Cotto at 147: C-/C
Anything less than that: D+
Cotto is still a good fighter and I have no problem with either guy fighting him at 154. though it's probably more important for Floyd to fight him than Manny, because Manny already beat him.

...so why is Manny trying to fight Cotto again when he is now bigger and a 154lbs title holder? Manny's own wife said Pacquiao wants Cotto next.Last edited by p4p-champ; 01-26-2012, 11:19 AM.

This really solidifies what a fraud and a poser the so-called P4P king is. This is clear evidence of who's the better fighter and who really takes on the better quality of opposition. People like myself, Cash Cow, Mr. Opal, and a whole host of other true boxing fans have known this for a mighty long time. It's just the matter of rubbing it into the faces of the naysayers and nonbelievers. He won't fight a fighter he defeated at a weight where he would be able to compete, while Floyd is willing to do so. Cotto fits the criteria for a Maweather bout right now. Cotto's last fight ended by KO/TKO. Floyd picks fighters who have come off of ompressive wins while Pac, aside from Marquez, only fought weight drained zombies who were just recently beaten badly, or KTFO!
I don't blame Cotto. If he's going to lose, at least he will make some good money, and he will have a fighting chance of winning. With Pacquiao and the 147 stipulation, he'd be a dead man walking. Another KO waiting to happen. If that did happen, the world will not accept it because everyone's already hip to the catchweights and the affect it has on fighters. Freddie Roach, by his own admission, claims he told Ortiz to go up to 147 because struggling to make 140 will only make him weak. They use catchweights to their advantage and I don't understand how anyone of sound mind can consider him P4P King. I've said it before, and I'm going to say it agian. If Manny doesn't want to fight these guys (who aren't a fraction of the skilled all around fighter that Floyd is) at their optimal weight, then who really believes that Manny will fight lightning fast Floyd at his??? It just doesn't add up folks. Cotto was defeated by Juicebot Pacquiao, but now that Cotto looks good at this weight and has avenged his loss, Pacquiao wants to drain him again to ensure his victory and a performance that can stir the GOAT pot again. That wouldn't work though because the jig is up. Have a nice day.
