Well where do you rate him? It all depends on who's doing the ratings.

Is Freddie Roach overrated?

Where is this ratings list? How is he over or under rated? When a fighter wins HE wins when the fighter loses its the Trainers Fault!!! Does anyone on this thread actually fight? Or train fighters? How many fighters listen to instructions during a fight even if they have trust in their trainer? How many fighters have the mentality to box outside and fight inside? Not many, thats for sure !! Thats always a problem when you try to train a young man to be accomplished in both positions. What fighter does well backing up? No one is taught to back up in a straight line but every fighter can get caught up doing it when their under pressure in a fight.
Trainers can determine the out come of a fight but if its a big fight and their part of the team that got them to the big fight then how are they over rated? I hear alot of hate on this forum and I'll guess its from the "fans" here because fighters and trainers have respect for each other. Whats the point of competing against people you have no respect for, what accomplishment is there winning over someone you have no respect for. I hear hate on here to often and hate is another form of fear no fighter worth his salt enters the ring with hate on their minds.
I can say this without any doubt, if a fighter I'm handling doesn't listen to me in a fight I will never work with them again. If a fighter I've trained doesn't listen to me during a fight he might find no one in the corner at rounds end!!
Its happened. Ray.Last edited by Ray Corso; 01-24-2012, 09:48 AM.

Roach has done wonders for Khan, he just needs to put a lot of work into his inside game.
Roach has him fighting like a Pacquiao clone, throwing ****** flashy combinations, wasting energy and unlike Pacquiao, he doesn't hurt people with them. He's basically fighting like Paul fkn Williams
He doesn't need to have much of an inside game if his outside game was up to scratch.

He wants Khan to set up with the jab, then throw in a few combinations. Get out of range, jab and look for more openings. Rinse and repeat. Khan wants to entertain though and would rather show off his hand speed and chin then fight disciplined.
He doesn't have any inside game at all, I was cringing every time Peterson got inside. His outside game is fine when he wants to box but he's his own worst enemy.
What the trainer instructs and what the fight implements can be two different things. Roach obviously hasn't worked a lot on Khan's inside game because it's not that relevant to his style.

Of course not.
Roach probably focuses on the volume punching/combinations for scoring purposes. I don't believe he trains all his fighters the same way, he may place his ' mark ' on the fighter though.
If he was moulding Khan like Pacman, Khan would have an inside game. But his inside game is to tie-up, get it back to distance and then box behind the jab. I haven't watched Linares in a long time, but when I did, he boxed like Khan behind the jab then jumped in with combinations.
The opponent can't punch back when you're throwing punches at their face ( LOL Marquez ). That is the philosophy I guess Roach has picked up, works so well with Manny because he punches so fast, so many and hard. Roach isn't dumb enough to handicap his fighters by taking away their best assets.

Through better conditioning Khan has become quicker,
Khan won't learn anything new from Roach. He needs to work on his defense and his inside game and he won't learn that from Roach.
Alot of boxing writers though Khan should of went to Mayweather sr,
Although Khan's chin can't get any better his defense can...
Ariza has done a good job putting weight into Amir's legs, so when he gets hit he won't go down as easy but he can still be hurt.
