Comments Thread For: Sauerland Interested in a Heavyweight Super Six Tourney

Promoter Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event, who was very instrumental in the organization of the original Super Six super middleweight tournament, would be interested in organizing a heavyweight version of the Super Six. Sauerland has three and even possibly four boxers who could particpate - including Robert Helenius (17-0, 11KOs), Alexander Povetkin (23-0, 16KOs), Kubrat Pulev (15-0, 7KOs) - and Marco Huck (34-1, 25KOs) -if he beats Povetkin on February 25th for the WBA title.

So the Klitschkos are in, but the final won't take place because they won't fight each other?! Or else, the Klitschkos are not in, so what is the point of the tournement?

The only reason I would care is if Povetkin won and then grew a set to fight a Klitschko, or the Klitschkos themselves were in it and fought each other at the end, which won't happen.

I don't know about a super six, but I do think we need more fights between heavyweight contenders. A lot of the time they just wait for a title shot, facing journeymen rather than taking a risk against someone who is about the same level as themselves.

We need more fights like Helenius-Chisora and Adamek-Arreola.

Do a 4 or 8 fighter single-elimination tournament and by the end of it there will be someone who people give a respectable chance vs the Klitschko brothers. Even if he loses it still makes for a good event.

I don't hold out high hopes for the idea though. The Povetkin/Chambers/Byrd/Brock eliminators went well, but when the IBF tried the same thing about a year ago a lot of boxers weren't interested and I think the whole thing was scrapped eventually.

good idea but it won't involve the klitschkos so it would have to be 6 guys who are looking for good paydays & who are willing to not get a shot at either klitschko for a couple years. it's a tough tournament to make because the best HW's won't be in it.

If the winner is guaranteed a shot at either Klitschko, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get heavyweights involved.

                  Chisora
                  Arreola
                  Chambers
                  Dimitrenko
                  Solis
                  Mitchell

                  Would make a good tournament.

the IBF did this several times over the years. take 4 top 10 contenders in their rankings & had them fight. the last one didn't go so well. chambers beat derric rossy & thompson beat maurice harris but thompson & chambers was cancelled. IBF named thompson wlad's mandatory. this fight is to happen in germany july 13 as long as no injuries occur in the mormeck fight.
