this question gets asked more often then you'd think. personally i don't think anyone can know for sure seeing as ali lost almost 4 years of his prime that we never got to see.
with that said, only Louis, Lewis and both klistcko's have a shot, with vit and lewis having the best odds. imo.

I 2nd that Holyfield notion..........
Hey. I agree with the Holyfield name you threw in the hat. That would have been one of my dream fights. Even more than Tyson/ALI. Holyfield was the best combination punching heavyweight in my opinion. And he had the best left-hook. We all know how ALI could never seem to get out of the way of a left-hook, not even Querys! ALI didn't throw body shots and that would have been a problem fighting a fighter on Evanders level. They were just about even in the stamina and pain-taking areas so it would come down to skills. I think Holyfield was better than ALI because you didn't have to tell him to go to the body. It's that simple. ALIs jab would have given HOLY a problem early until he adjusted and then he would have had the advantages with his fast hands, discipline, combination-punching, his own great jab, and most importantly, THE LEFT HOOK!

Great fight when you really think about it.

The US media is full of 1960s-era ******* sportswriter vets like Bert Sugar who idolize the man who did nothing but scorn them. The more Clay hated them, the more they loved him for it. ******** are often such masochists that way. They rewarded Clay by building this myth of him being the "Greatest," when, if you just want to go by wins and losses, it would seem Marciano was "the Greatest." But Rocky wasn't the right guy for the people in question to promote in an era of "progressive" politics.

So, the speed advantage and fleet of foot ability that Ali normally had an advantage over his opponents is lost to a guy like Holyfield and unlike say Frazier, Holyfield didn't look to just his left hook only, he was extremely versatile in punch combinations as you said. So, I don't think Ali could jab and moonwalk his way to a win. Holyfield was just as athletic and much more versatile.

I can also to tell when people have not really watched the fighter they speak of. Frazier was not a one armed fighter. He used his right frequently with good effect.Last edited by joseph5620; 01-18-2012, 12:49 AM.
