    How is Cotto shot??

I mean, when I watch Cotto, he still looks impressive in his fights. I don't see any signs of slowing down. Yeah, sure he hasn't fought anyone noteworthy the past 2 years, but he dominated them like he was supposed to. I mean he had trouble with Clottey (maybe even lost), but I would never think Antonio Margarito is a better fighter than Sergio Martinez, or Ken Norton is a better fighter than Muhammed Ali. And his only 2 losses were against one of the best, and a cheater. So I don't get it. How is Cotto shot? He still looks good to me.

It's something people throw around a lot.
I assume people call him shot because he didn't perform like he used too after his Margarito loss (judging from his Clottey win)... and the ball got rolling from there

That 40 year old Lightweight is pretty good, though.

No shame in losing to him, even at 147.

Cotto isn't shot, he's just a little past his best.

"Shot" is one of those words like "bum" and "exposed" that get thrown around a lot by people who don't know what the hell they're talking about.

They say that based on his confidence & heart. He never fully recovered from the brick beating and now he folds easier. he cracked against Clottey and basically started running. Same with Manny.... took a good beating from both. He's not the same. All it takes is somebody with better feet than Margarito to pressure him all night and he will crumble. His days are numbered.

In a way, Cotto is past his prime.

But he is far from shot.

Cotto is not shot at all. His skills are still the same and his defense has improved at 154. The only difference from present day Cotto and the prime Cotto is that Prime Cotto could eat a bunch of shots and he would never get cut or get his face swollen and present day Cotto gets cut easily and it doesn't take much to bruise him. That is the result of getting hit with plaster for 11 rounds, but he is not shot.

I'm curious and excited to see how much this new style does for him. At 154, his punch resistance is improved and his new willingness to clinch and use his strength on the inside should make a fight interesting with any of the top guys around.

He's the strongest fighter at 154 and it's about time he uses it for his advantage. I'd like to see him fight Floyd, Sergio, or Canelo in his next fight. The pacquiao rematch is intriguing but any fight signed in place of Floyd-Pac is just gonna piss off the public. Now is the time to make it happen if ever. Both are getting older and Floyd will be locked up for quarter 3 of 2012 so I doubt it's feasible until 2013 otherwise -- by then they'll both be too much removed from their primes for us to really find out who's better.
