Cotto is past his best...he fights differently now. He comes in and attacks and when it gets ugly he mostly boxes and back peddles most of the fight. I'm a Cotto fan but realistic, Mayweather will beat Cotto. Reason the Mayweather vs. Cotto does not look too appealing is that Pacman beat Cotto in a mismatch. Style makes fights but what credit will Mayweather get from winning?
They say that based on his confidence & heart. He never fully recovered from the brick beating and now he folds easier. he cracked against Clottey and basically started running. Same with Manny.... took a good beating from both. He's not the same. All it takes is somebody with better feet than Margarito to pressure him all night and he will crumble. His days are numbered.
Lets not forget Cotto was having trouble making welterweight and when he fought Pacquiao he fought at 145. I think he was drained going into the fight. Just like Delahoya was against Pacquiao.
a 40 year old Lightweight Marquez would beat him @ 147
Cotto doesn't fight at 147 anymore. I'm also POSITIVE he can't that make weight anymore. Why people keep saying he should move back down to 147 is beyond me. But theoretically, if he WERE to move down back to 147 TODAY, I'd probably favor Márquez over Cotto.
Only people who think Cotto is shot are margarito fans lol. And Kev. Thats about it lol. Put it this way. Why is floyd still running from cotto??!? 6 years!! That gives you your answer.
Mayweather would beat Cotto. At best, Cotto wins 4 rounds but NOT A SINGLE ROUND MORE. I've been saying this since before the Cotto-Pacquiao fight way back in mid 2009.
Cotto is not shot at all. His skills are still the same and his defense has improved at 154. The only difference from present day Cotto and the prime Cotto is that Prime Cotto could eat a bunch of shots and he would never get cut or get his face swollen and present day Cotto gets cut easily and it doesn't take much to bruise him. That is the result of getting hit with plaster for 11 rounds, but he is not shot.
Judah is a harder and more explosive hitter than Yuri Foreman and I thought he looked more scuffed up in the latter.
Same deal when comparing Mosley/Mayorga. Mosley probably hit him more than Mayorga, but he looked worse in the Mayorga fight (facial-wise).
His face just doesn't hold up like it used to.
Having said that, I still think Cotto can hold his own against the current 154. The only guy I'd be really worried about at that weight class is James Kirkland. If Kirkland's chin doesn't go AWOL, Kirkland by brutal stoppage.
