  • To THIS day, no fighter has stepped into the ring at 147 and thrown 6-20 punch combinations like Sugar Ray Leonard. He hit you with punches you did NOT see coming. Under no uncertain terms would Pac and Mayweather have handled the speed and power and size of Leonard. And smallish Welterweights do not take the right hand of Hearns and hear the final bell. Mayweather and Pac would have been dropped hard and counted out before the 6th round by Hearns who was a freaking monster at 147.

Leonard was bigger, faster, stonger than Pac and May and would have dominated Mayweather and Pac but would have stopped Pac mid rounds, Mayweather would either be stopped late or made it to the final bell only because of his tight defence after being badly punished. Under no uncertain terms does Oscar, Pac, Mayweather, or Trinadad, Simon Brown, Donald Curry, Starling beat Leonard, Hearns, Duran.
I will never forget the punch that dropped Duran.

I have two of my guys pegged firmly above Pac/May, and most boxing fans will not have heard of either of them.

        Who would that be?

        • My 5 favorite fighters of all time: Sugar Ray Leonard, Alexis Arguello, Salvador Sanchez, Ali, Roy Jones Jr. I met Leonard, Jones twice, and Alexis. Never met Ali or Sanchez. Watching Leonard was like watching an artistic whirlwind. Poetry in motion, really.

          • Fighters are just too scared and cautious today to step in the ring and prove how great they really are. Pac/May would have gotten flattened by some of the guys from old.

Fitzy, ok, many will have heard of him, and Carpentier.

Georges, not the other Carpentier, who is no relation.

He fought from welter through to heavy, but is mostly regarded as a LHW.

He was a superb fighter, highly skilled, with a crippling right hand.

My guys are (not who I think is best, just my fav's).

              Fitzy
              Carpentier
              Pep
              Leonard
              Armstrong

With honorable mentions to Moore, Tyson, Jones Jnr, Hoya, and about a dozen others.

I remember reading about Fitz when I was a kid, how his wife would always be at ringside screaming "hit him in the slats Bob".

Never been a huge Hearns fan although I would never deny him.

Remember that I also had "KnockUThe***Out" quotes.

No you have it all wrong ... I know about what you said about Floyd because I saw that you pulled that same line already in another thread BEFORE I made that post.

Your also wrong about the part about me being a lil kid .... I wish that I was still a kid! lol!

Not cool to talk about Roach and Alzheimer when he already has big problems .... but I'm assuming that you didn't mean it that way.

Roach can change his opinion on what he said. Manny beat Cotto and Mosley so they are no longer the challenge that is in front of them. The challenge is Floyd and he is realizing that more than ever now. Nothing wrong with his mind!

Floyd's contradiction is very recent. That is actually way worse than what you pointed out about Roach. If you would ask Roach why the change of heart, I am sure that Roach would tell you things straight as to why. Floyd's contradiction was just plain dumb!

You break his body down, he has bad hands, bad ribs, bad knee and he’s had rotator cuff surgery. This is not a guess it’s the facts, period.....

Mayweather will be, an easier opponent than Cotto or Mosley or even Marquez. Manny will be applying pressure from the beginning and never let up. He will use both hands and he is certainly the faster fighter. The difference will come in the middle of the fight. Manny is continuing to throw shots from all angles and Mayweather will feel the Kayo.

                  ~ Freddie Roach

Roach made those comments around July-August 2009.

Interestingly, I have also seen GRUSTLER post an old quote from Roach stating that Mayweather would easily be Manny's toughest opponent, so it seems to depend on how Freddie is feeling at the time.

I would be more interested to hear him break down a Bradley fight.
Everyone contradicts themselves at one point. Even Floyd but he does it most of the time. Why give a big deal on Roach contradicting himself when Bob Arum, Floyd, Schaeffer, dela Hoya and even other trainers do this to make the fights more interesting.

                      Good observation!.......Pac , during the 80's,
would have prospered at Light Weight, and
Pryor, at 140 would have been a problemo...
