It's disputable the fighters would have been incapable of hearing Cortez give a verbal command. Highly.

The ref also ALWAYS says "Obey my commands at all times". This presupposes that the commands need to be verbal. And, as I've written elsewhere, "box on" is the normal command. Some refs say "box". With Cortez making obscure gestures, Ortiz was obviously waiting for that command. Also, if you review the tape. you will see that Mayweather quickly glanced at Cortez, saw he wasn't looking, and immediately took advantage of that, and hit Ortiz. That's why Cortez was so surpised when he saw Ortiz on the floor. He lost control.
Mayweather....No sportsman. And I don't really think it should have been allowed. But the ref, taken by surprise, had committed himself, and he was in charge, so when he said it was legal, that was that.
He really, in my opinion, should have DQ Mayweather, but I'd bet that with all the publicity and love Mayweather has lavished on his record, Cortez was afraid to do so.
It's also like you wrongfully analyzed the situation, Floyd didn't have to look at the ref as he was already signaled to fight. He did what he was suppose to do, Ortiz waiting or this that and the other is simply Ortiz being ******. Looking at the ref after the left hook landed was another ****** move. He has himself to blame, I'ma keep repeating that too.Comment

Also, it's not like the Mayweather-Judah situation where Floyd had time to regroup himself, set his emotions aside. Once Ortiz landed that headbutt the action resumed quickly after, Ortiz should have been smart enough to know Floyd would try and quickly seek vengeance. As far as I'm concerned Floyd most likely didn't even care about Cortez deducting points from Ortiz. His mind was set on finishing what Ortiz started and he did just that.Comment

All good and dandy, but that was still an ugly move, dude was freaking airborne, cut Floyd under his lip and then attempted to follow up with an overhand left. It's funny to me because it's like...did people not see that?

And these so called professional couch judges are just as good as Joe Cortez....finally....someone saw this fight as i did...Floyd lost a step, and to say he was dominating, and Vic was doing nothing just shows how ****** some people are.....Now the guy who made this has some BS writing in here, but shows what anyone with a brain saw.

The thing is, Cortez's attention being elsewhere during the time Mayweather clipped Victor with the left hook/ straight right hand...doesn't have an effect on why the fight ended the way it did. In the end he waved them in and signaled them to fight.
I recently re-watched Lamont Peterson-Amir Khan and the referee gave them the same signal, he waved them in and said "Lets go". I mean, it's common sense, I'm really not understanding the argument here. As for Cortez being surprised, again, he wasn't paying attention to the two fighters at that particular moment and when he finally was...Ortiz was lying flat on the canvas, who wouldn't have been surprised by that considering the circumstances?

And again, Mayweather glanced at the ref, to MAKE SURE he was NOT looking and quickly seized the opportunity to throw the sleazy blows. If the ref HAD been looking, he wouldn't have thrown them, or at least, Ortiz would have been ready for them and seen them coming. Ortiz, as a result if the unexpected light left hook, looked away to Cortez to see if he would reprimand or penalize Mayweather, and gave Mayweather an open jaw.

Cortez is a lying prick who's trying to cover his ass. He knows he screwed up so now he says he didn't give a verbal order cause it was too loud? He's 2 feet away from them for f_*cks sake! What a lying sack a **** he is. He gives verbal orders all the time but all of the sudden in this one instance he decided they wouldn't hear it? This guy has ruined so many fights it's amazing he still gets work.Comment
