What happened was not illegal but a competent ref would always look in the middle to say box or gesture it.

It is like saying 3, 2 , 1 run but not looking if someone jumped the gun.

Cortez is a lying prick who's trying to cover his ass. He knows he screwed up so now he says he didn't give a verbal order cause it was too loud? He's 2 feet away from them for f_*cks sake! What a lying sack a **** he is. He gives verbal orders all the time but all of the sudden in this one instance he decided they wouldn't hear it? This guy has ruined so many fights it's amazing he still gets work.

You are missing the point. "Let's go" could be meant to "get ready to fight" the hand gestures mean nothing. Boxing is not governed by hand gestures, which, to different people can mean different things. Besides they take the boxer's attention away from his opponent.

And again, Mayweather glanced at the ref, to MAKE SURE he was NOT looking and quickly seized the opportunity to throw the sleazy blows. If the ref HAD been looking, he wouldn't have thrown them, or at least, Ortiz would have been ready for them and seen them coming. Ortiz, as a result if the unexpected light left hook, looked away to Cortez to see if he would reprimand or penalize Mayweather, and gave Mayweather an open jaw.

No, it is you who's missing the point, Floyd wouldn't be ****** enough to risk getting disqualified unless Cortez had given him the green light, which he did. I've already proven that Joe Copper, referee for Khan vs. Peterson, used the same command Cortez did, he waved them in and said "Lets go" and best believe neither Khan or Peterson stood there defenseless like Ortiz's dumb ass. Floyd's been in the game for 15 years now, he'd know when to and when not to take advantage of a situation like that.

Exactly, I don't see how Cortez did anything wrong. It makes no difference whether he is looking at the KO or if he is in the corner playing himself. Ortiz was the one looking at the ref instead of the guy he is fighting.



If Floyd was trying to sneak in some sleazy blows, then why did he go for a knockout? Was he going to try to KO Ortiz and then when the Ref looks at him he is going to act like he doesn't know what happened? This isn't the WWE. You act like Roger distracted the ref while Floyd got a chair hit Ortiz, threw the chair out of the ring, Ref looks back and sees Floyd with the pin. Cmon now...

NO, the ref HAS to give precise definite instuctions, verbally, not in sign language. The correct one is "box on". Cortez is not being completely honest. I suppose he can make signs as well, if he wants to, but a fighter is a fool if he takes his eyes off his opponent to look at the ref's sign language. In fact, my common-sense says that it could be said that the ref, by distracting the fighters in that way, could be acting against the rules.

In my opinion he was taken by surprise by seeing Ortiz on the canvas across his line of vision, when he was looking over at the timekeeper. He didn't have his eyes on the ring action.

Technically, I agree with you..... but EVERYBODY could see the fight had resumed, so Ortiz should have noticed.

The fighters were apart when Cortez resumed the action, so your point about Ortiz not wanting to take his eyes off Mayweather doesn't make sense.

Ortiz should have been observing the referee when the fighters were apart, and observing Mayweather when the action had resumed..... not the other way around.

At 1.42 in this video, Ortiz knew that the fight had been resumed.

I agree with your point about Cortez and the timekeeper, but it was a justified cheap shot imho, and completely Ortiz' fault.

Mayweather was completely entitled to do that, and Ortiz showed a little naivety, but it was completely unnecessary, and Mayweather ****ed his own fight as a spectacle. It was a hollow victory, no question.

And these so called professional couch judges are just as good as Joe Cortez....finally....someone saw this fight as i did...Floyd lost a step, and to say he was dominating, and Vic was doing nothing just shows how ****** some people are.....Now the guy who made this has some BS writing in here, but shows what anyone with a brain saw.

I, like many, wanted Ortiz to win, and I would love to have seen how that fight would have unfolded had it not ended unnecessarily early..... but Mayweather was starting to break Ortiz down man, you must have been able to see that.

Really doubt that Mayweather was gonna KO Ortiz if the fight went on, and if he fights Canelo there's no way he will knock him out. Mayweather couldn't even KO Marquez and JMM is a lightweight. Floyd can dominate fighters but only 60% of his fights have ended in a knockout and most of those were in the lighter weight classes. the only way he can KO a decent welter is if the other fighter is looking at the ref...
