In my opinion he was taken by surprise by seeing Ortiz on the canvas across his line of vision, when he was looking over at the timekeeper. He didn't have his eyes on the ring action.Comment

i cant believe they still let cortez officiate fights let alone big ppvs events. He should have retired 5 years ago. He's been involved in a lot of refereeing controversies the last 2-3 years. Even the way he speaks while giving out instructions or warnings during fights; he mumbles a lot and doesnt speak clearly.
He's an awful referee in my opinion.Comment

NO, the ref HAS to give precise definite instuctions, verbally, not in sign language. The correct one is "box on". Cortez is not being completely honest. I suppose he can make signs as well, if he wants to, but a fighter is a fool if he takes his eyes off his opponent to look at the ref's sign language. In fact, my common-sense says that it could be said that the ref, by distracting the fighters in that way, could be acting against the rules.

And these so called professional couch judges are just as good as Joe Cortez....finally....someone saw this fight as i did...Floyd lost a step, and to say he was dominating, and Vic was doing nothing just shows how ****** some people are.....Now the guy who made this has some BS writing in here, but shows what anyone with a brain saw.

every time this guy talks or does anything he makes no sense. the fighters couldn't hear him? of course they can hear you. the ref shouts commands all fight long. using sign language to talk to them is just ****** you mumbling tard.Comment

Yeah, he waves them in and says "lets go", it all falls under Ortiz's ******ity/ being over apologetic. Yeah he was surprised, if I'm a ref looking elsewhere and see another fighter on the canvas I'd be surprised too, doesn't mean a thing. Again, Ortiz has himself to blame.Comment

Protect Yourself at All Times...
Floyd was dominating the fight, his punches weren't having a physical affect on Ortiz but he was breaking Ortiz down mentally. Ortiz didn't land many punches but the few that he did land, looked like they were bothering Floyd. The fight was just starting to get good but Ortiz didn't follow the basic boxing rules. Everybody made their money, the only people that lost were the fans..Comment
