It was a tune up to get rid of rust and get his timing back.

Anyways that's beyond the point...The fact is Mosley was coming off a 16 month layoff. People want to act as if the Marg win was during the same year or right before the Floyd fight. It wasn't, he had lost his momentum by then.

Not that he means much, but Kevin Iole put Mayweather in #1-P4P as a result of the Mosley fight, while he called the Pacquiao-Mosley fight "trash" and "pure garbage".

And a pasting by Floyd and a bad show against Mora did what Mentally to Shane , boxing is very much a mind game and coming of a big win as your last in ring memory is very different mindset than coming of 2 bad loses .

The thing is Pac and Roach ducked the Mosley that Floyd fought and they ducked him blatantly while he was coming of the Margo KO , even though Shane was begging for the fight at a ridicules weight with the only answer given by Roach " Your too good of a fighter Shane " and then all of a sudden after 2 dismal performances Shane was chosen without a weight clause ,,,,,,

Freddie and Team seen that Shane was no longer a force they seen that he was shot , bottom line they were not the same Mosleys , how could they be with 2 loses and more time in between .

I think discrediting the Mayweather win over Mosley as a knee jerk reaction to people discrediting the Pacquiao win over Mosley really creates a slippery slope. If we discredit those wins, then we have to discredit Pac's win over Margarito, which subsequently discredits their respective Cotto wins. This could carry on to a point where neither fighter has a single credible win above 140.

Is Mayweather's win over Mosley heralded as some great achievement? I don't see that very often.

Is it better than Pacquiao's win over Mosley? It is moderately better, but certainly neither faced a prime Mosley.

Exactly, while it's not entirely true that your only as good as your last fight, it also plays a role in match making. Only Pacquiao and his team knew what to expect in the ring against Mosley, which was a guy who could no longer pull the trigger.

Mosley still had the right credentials, came off of a great performance and Floyd still sought out that challenge, be it he was faded or not...that equates to alot more than Pacquiao's reasons to face him. That's all that matters when comparing the two victories.

I'm sorry where did I even remotely try to give Pac any sort of credit for Shane?

Where was that even mentioned in my post?

If you're not reading what I'm writing then don't respond to me...Is that simple.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but the Mosley that fought Mayweather and the one that fought Pacquiao was roughly the same fighter. Rewatch the fights, especially the first 3 rounds of each, and look at it objectively. People act like Mosley got way slower, weaker, and totally shot in the one year between those fights. Face it, he was shot in both.

Of course, Floyd gets a good deal more credit due to the timing and circumstances (which worked out perfectly for him), but calling one win great and the other trash is just silly. It was the same fighter. The only difference was a belt and a perception.

Mosley came up with his one last great performance vs. Margarito whose style is tailor made for him, a win that would boost up his stock significantly. A more accurate representation of Mosley was probably the one who fought Mayorga just 4 months earlier. Keep in mind that fight would be almost two years before he would fight Mayweather.
I agree with you in that calling one win great and the other trash is just silly, I would call one win great and the other unnecessary. A fact that can't be denied by few of the more rational amongst us is that Manny fought similar fighters to Floyd but in differing stages in their careers. Trying to elevate Mosley, if only a bit, to a better place in his career gives Pacquiao credit he doesn't deserve and suggests facts that aren't true.

Fact is, the Mosley that fought Manny wasn't the same fighter that fought Floyd, and he’d been sliding in several fights before he was finally deemed "Manny Worthy." He wasn't coming off any spectacular fight or anything, I think by industry standards he was looking a little shopworn and frayed around the edges. Shouldn’t a challenger earn the right to face the champion because of his consistent performances? I say and ask all this to point out that Arum would never have put Manny in the ring with a legitimate threat; he's too smart for a move like that. He's openly defied fans about the possible Mayweather match-up from the beginning and has managed to avoid a majority of the blame for it not happening.

Manny fights fighters these days that are ready to be flayed, hell; they practically gut themselves from the outset. Some folks are really reaching to crown Manny Pacquiao king of the bad asses when they try elevating the level of Paquiao's competition from where they obviously were.

Shane was no stranger to 16 month layoffs...he spent a lot of time on the sidelines waiting for Oscar...

Mosley...like Mayweather....deals with being off very well..

Mosley tried his best to get Manny...he even called him out in his own gym.

At least Floyd stepped-up and fought him when he had a Title..

Mosley didn't have any confidence going in the Pacquiao fight lots of boxing fans really don't take that into account beating a guy on a high point with all the confidence in the world is better then beating a guy on two fights win less streak
