That is a shame. I don't have any excuse. But I will say if it had 8 million viewers people would be like "f*** why did they watch this boring fight?" I LOVE boxing so the first time I watched Ward I knew I was a hardcore fan because I watched the whole fight on the edge of my seat yet knew he would never be a massive fan favorite.

Also to the people comparing Canelo/Rios and Ward numbers I'll just say as a white guy from the midwest just the fact that someones Mexican adds appeal to me. There's a long line of Mexican warriors so even with the subpar Mexicans you know you'll get a decent fight.

If you're saying the delays and people leaving hurt the tourny how do you feel Pac/May would do now? I enjoy both fighters but that fight has lost most of its appeal to me. I feel Mayweather has lost a tid bit while Manny is starting to slide, and that has very very little to do with Marquez. Manny was at his best during Hatton or Cotto IMO.

And last to the people talking about how Ward needs to market himself like Floyd, no, maybe, but no. He still wont compare to Mayweather in my opinion. Some of the people on these forums make me look forward to a decade after Floyd retires because then he'll finally get his due.

All in all it's sad. I really wish an American gold medalist could do better. Maybe it shows boxing isn't what it used to be in America. Or maybe it shows that Americans don't care what color you are. Maybe it shows that Americans crave excitement. Unless Ward is fighting Bute I'd much rather watch Katsidis/Rios/Gamboa/Donaire fight a bum.

They don't build them, but the introduce them. I think Tim Brad and Donaire made debut's on showbox before moving onto HBO.

how is canelo a fake fighter? because he is popular and gets preferential treatment from HBO? he can't help that. . . he has a fan friendly style, and his countrymen have rallied behind him. . . doesn't mean he doesn't have a fighter's heart and soul. . .

They earned alot in Europe on Kessler fights, Frochs, Abrahams and so on. These fighters have major followings. Boxing is very much alive in Europe.

Agreed, this just shows maybe fighting in America doesn't mean what it used to. Heck even Canada with Bute and Pascal is doing very well.

It's sad but really not that surprising.

You have a Brit against a talented but not very exciting African American, for the most part outside of Floyd the African Americans haven't been getting much fan following like in the past.
