Agreed, this just shows maybe fighting in America doesn't mean what it used to. Heck even Canada with Bute and Pascal is doing very well.
I don't think that this means that fighting in US isn't what it used to be. People from the US want to see exciting fights and that's what they pay for. In Europe boxing is having a lot of success with boxers like Froch who is entertaining, Kessler who has proven to be a warrior, even Abraham who is very limited but used to deliver brutal KOs. Bute is not the most exciting boxer ever but he delivers, and Pascal as raw as he can be he's still an ambush boxer who does pretty well against good opponents.

US people still watch boxing, but the main difference here is that they now watch other kind of boxers that are generally more exciting like Pacquiao. Let's be honest, Pacquiao is not the best boxer ever and is limited in certain aspects of his game, but he used to be pretty exciting and that's why many people adopted him as their "model" boxer.

About Ward, he's an Olympic gold medalist, an undefeated boxer that has beaten most of the best guys of the division, but he has a boring style for most fans. He clinches every 10 seconds, has no major power and has a very low profile personality. I see that some guys here still think that he's going to be a star on HBO, but personally I just don't see it, he just doesn't has the appeal or the style to become a star. He's most likely going to stay as one of the top 10 P4P fighters, but that doesn't means that he's going to become a star juts because he's winning. Just look at Bradley, he's very familiar for most guys in this boxing forum, but he's not popular, he doesn't fill arenas and is not a superstar even though he's also undefeated and has faced some of the best of his division.

I didn't record this. Knew Ward was gonna kick Froch's arse.

It's a good tournament, not one fight was sensational.

I see what you're saying but I was more referring to fighting in the country. I think Ward fighting Froch across the pond would have seemed so much more dramatic and have gotten a better live turn out. Heck as a boxing fan I wanted Froch to win because of his exciting style and can see why people got behind him. While Abraham was limited he made me a fan with his ko of Demers. I can easily see why boxing is big in Europe.

The problem with boxing in the US is we are so split up. Rios was born in TX but if he does good numbers in America it's beause of the Mexicans. NO!!! I'm white and like Rios because he's exciting. Gamboa is Cuban but now lives in the US but he's latino, so you must be latino if you're watching him. Donaire has lived in the US since he was 10, but if you like him you must be filipino. Heck even Mayweather, if you like him you must be black.

I just get so sick of all the racism in boxing. I'm a white guy from the mid west so who am I supposed to support? Well I do enjoy Litzau and Pavlik but that has more to do with their ****ing style than skin color. I just get so sick of the people who seem to say if there was a white great champion from America he'd be a star. While Ward isn't the easiest on the eyes I hope he does great, heck I look at him and have the feeling that in five or ten years people will see what I see now and enjoy it because of all he's done. I hope he goes far not because of skin color or what country he's from, but because he has skill.

You mean watching 3 Rios fights or 1 Ward fight. It'd be about the same amount of time.

This, plus Ward's final win may have been one sided but it was a thing of beauty against a tremendous froch. And just the whole structure of a tournament with (most of) the best guys and everybody locked in was very fun and compelling.

Onechance WTF is up with you and this African ****? Andre Ward is not African he is american. Won a gold medal in the olympics representing his home country of america. So why would Africans need to show more support to Ward instead of just plain old Americans? Andre Ward is a black man that is from America.
