I think Ward should enjoy his Christmas, enjoy his win with his family, take a month of so off and then focus on fighting Bute.

Despite Bute's lack of quality wins, he's still the best fighter out there left for Ward.

Who else is left to fight?

Dirrell? Maybe. After he shakes off the ring rust.

Other than that, the other best two in his division Ward has already thoroughly dominated.

Bute and Cloud were negotiating on fighting at a catchweight. Look it up. There was an article from boxingscene when the negotiations were taking place.

Bute didn't want to pay Pavlik the money he wanted. Bute basically priced himself out.

Pavlik turned down 1.5 mill to fight Bute and a free title shot basically, and instead fought some bum on an undercard for not even a million dollars. Yet Bute priced himself out?

Wrong. Ward has said Bute needs to earn the right to fight him.

Kessler decided to fight Steiglitz rather than Bute and Froch and Ward say they won't until he proves it by fighting one of them...yet all three are using the same rational to avoid him.

"You need to prove yourself by fighting one of us, we won't fight you cuz you haven't fought one of us"

It's a catch 22 that they're using to shut Bute out.

Just because he wasn't invited, that doesn't give him the right to fight soft competition for the past 2 years. "All" of the elite fighters weren't taken up in the SS.

He had his chance to fight other fighters (i.e Cloud, Pavlik) at catchweights or something. But instead he chose to fight Glen Johnson who was coming off a loss. He's not fooling anybody with that.

-Pavlik turned down 1.3 million claiming it was a low-ball offer even though that's what Martinez is making

- Kessler ened up avoiding Bute, going a easier route getting a bogus belt via Steiglitz so he can try to rematch Ward/Froch without having to fight Bute

- Ward & Froch are saying he doesn't deserve to fight them because he hasn't fought them, then refuse to fight him because he hasn't.

"Bute, 30, fought two fights in a row on Showtime, in late 2008 and early 2009, but he was not invited to join the Super Six when Hershman put it together in July 2009. Hershman said his exclusion was nothing against Bute. He said the tournament was very difficult to put together and "the only way to get five promoters and six fighters on the same page was within the existing relationships I had. It wasn't that I didn't think [Bute and Bedard] were worthy or trustworthy. I just didn't have the depth of the relationship I had with the others."

Bedard and Bute were disappointed that Showtime left him out, but that's in the past, they said.

"We were surprised because Lucian was IBF champion and one of the best fighters in the division," Bedard said. "We understand the reason. The problem was all the guys we were dreaming to fight were with Showtime. But at the end of the day, Lucian is more popular without being in the Super Six because everyone was speaking about him and asking why wasn't he in."

Tourney was a bit overrated. Dirrell ended up pussing out, Green and Johnson (wtf) were fighting for a spot in the semis basically by default, Bute wasn't invited, Taylor and Abraham had no business being in the tournament, either.

You do realize that Bute fought Johnson "after" he lost in the SS, right?

If Green and Johnson really didn't deserve to be in the SS in the first place, then how do you explain Bute fighting Johnson after he already loss?

It's funny because some of these "b and c " level guys ward struggled with and bute utterly destroyed

and this is all coming from a guy who has wins over only 2 A level fighters kessler and froch, the rest of his resume is no better than bute's

According to Pavlik, 1.3 wasn't enough when you tally what the fight would end up making overall.

Secondly, you completely left out the Cloud negotiations.

Taylor, Green, Johnson are all Lou Dibella fighters and that's the only reason they were the replacements it had nothing to do with merit. Bute fought Johnson cuz he was the best fighter willing to fight him since Steiglitz, Pavlik, Kessler all turned him down.

edit - i didn't know about any Cloud negotitions but i do remember him saying he didn't want to add any muscle until he moved up to LHW for good.

Ward is one of my favorites but Ward vs Bute has to happen or personally Ward's stock will go way down
