Well, I'd say we differ on the definition of credible. The word of the deceased's family and friends (who testified to witnessing behaviour too screwy to make up, IMO) is good enough for me in this instance.

The estate really wasn't enough to make all that fuss, trouble and expense over. Their own expenses, with special investigators etc. must have been enormous. That their lawyers didn't advise them that they had only little chance to succeed, shows that he was a crook as well, although, if they were so ****** as to insist on their course

All the more reason to think they were pursuing it on point of principle, IMO.

All these Latino women (who don't live in the States) think that "Gringos" are millionaires, and are looking to grab one, no matter how old. I'm living in Panama City, and I KNOW. I think about a quarter of this 10 storey fairly exclusive apartment block is occupied by elderly "Gringos" with the most beautiful young, and I mean about 20-25 women. Some of the women are from Guatamala and Columbia etc. It's a sort of local industry. Even I, at my advanced age was "closely connected" in a sort of way with a very attractive 31 year old Panamanian woman who was well educated, good local family and background, spoke good English, and had a decent office job with a huge US company.

I got sense and got out of it after about 5-6 months, but I can tell you that it caused a huge row with tears and all the rest. So, as I say.....I know.

All the more reason to think they were pursuing it on point of principle, IMO.

We just have two different views of the same thing. A flawed case is rather easy to spot almost from the beginning, for me anyway, and even if there was some merit in your view, a judge would not arbitrarily leave a deceased's assets away from his next of kin, his wife and child, especially with a legally executed will. Even if the family had produced the will they were talking about, it would have had no legal status, because, certainly in Canada anyway, I believe that upon marriage, all previous wills are null and void. If a new will (like the one the widow produced) had not been made, and Gatti died intestate, the estate would still have been divided as I earlier stated, a third to the widow, and the balance to any children of the marriage.Their only hope was to prove that the widow was a murderess, and also have her convicted.

If I were in your place, I'd think that 21 would be far too young to handle what might be large sums. I'd make ot at least 25-30. Also, I'd make sure that your brother would be suitable compensated for his trouble. In fact make the compensation contingent on his beind properly attentive. Any decent lawyer will agree with you on this. Because, and I can tell you from experience, both mine, and several others I know, that, no matter how much your brother loves you, nor how trustworthy he is, you never know what will later influence your brother's life, perhaps his own wife and children, or even other things you have no present comprehension of. When money business is involved, even with close family, it still needs to be in enforcable writing.
