Unfortunately, he isn't. He's just a paper champ who isn't even the top HW in his time.

In Louis time there was no growing hormones or steroids to make giants and 6 foot was a tall fighter and less face it. Giant Vitali will never be consider as the best HW champion of all times.
He won't be considered the best ever, he's in the wrong ers, but in my opinion he beats the all time greats in h2h matchups and that's definitely worth something.

The shoulder injury was direct result of his ATROCIOUS accuracy. 500 punches thrown and Byrd barely had a scratch on him.

Vitali has never beaten an elite skilled boxer in his life and is 0-2 in his career.

I don't know why a lot of people don't give Byrd credit for this fight he was making Vitali look foolish in the ring that night. He fought a fantastic fight. And he won. People can use the excuse of vitali's shoulder, well, it was byrd who made him miss all night long.

Sure he is. Just not resume-wise. That don't mean he wasn't the Ring champ before Wladimir and doesn't mean he's not considered the better fighter of the two. Wlad's #1 on paper, Vitali's #1 in the ring. (very close now though)

As far as all time standings go it means very little. Greatness isn't based on unprovable fantasy fights, it's based on resume and accomplishments.

Do you think Vitaly will be considered a top 10 all time great when all is said and done?

There is no other way. Looking cute in the ring doesn't count.

I agree, Byrd was exceptional defensively and was making Vitali miss frequently in their fight. However, he was easily losing and you don't win a fight solely on defensive manuevers. He got lucky Vitali injured HIMSELF and if Wlad had not taken care of Byrd in his very next fight 6 months later, Vitali would have rematched him and most likely stopped him.
