Good read. To bad the rest of the posters, can't put aside there pride and speak the truth. All of the excuses are worthless. At the end of the day, marg is finished and Cotto will ride into the sunset. Karma is a *****

Have to disagree with you on the championship rounds. At the end of 9 it looked like Cotto was setting Margarito up for something BIG(same way he was laying traps for Mayorga before he finished him off in 12)which probably explained why he was getting caught with weak(smothered)shots when he pinned Tony down and unleashed upstairs.
Remember, working the eye was their strategy, and even if the fight would have worn on, Cotto was still using his leverage to walk Margarito back against the ropes and tee off with hard, accurate combinations, then rinse and repeat. It was only a matter of time before it became the Pacquiao fight all over again. Margarito's punches weren't hurting Cotto and he was getting getting small breaks to conserve his stamina. Margarito is lucky the fight was waved off... nothing good would have come from going the full 12(if Cotto even allowed it to go that far)win or lose. Retiring while you're ahead(healthy), is not the same thing as retiring.
No and I will tell you why, because Cotto really wasn't hurting Margarito. As much as Cotto fans want to think that, all BS aside, Marg was eating those punches like nothing.

He took a much worse beating at the hands of Pac and Mosley. Dude has an incredible chin, even now. I mean those counter rights that were landing all night long were as hard as Cotto could possibly hit him and he was smiling and laughing at him. Mayorga wasn't doing that at all and couldn't handle Cotto's power.

Cotto would have went on to win a UD no doubt and that's what the fight would look like every time they fight from here on out. Marg is done bro, I'm not trying to diminish what Cotto did but you can't tell me that's the same Marg from 2008, not even close. He has no movement, is slow as can be and can't land his shots anymore. He can still pressure and punch but he's done.

Again, props to Cotto though for carrying out the game plan to a tee.

Excellent job by him and Pedro Diaz in their preparation. I loved the way he moved, clinched on the inside and for the most part kept his back off the ropes.

I do think Marg was getting stronger as the fight wore on but it wasn't the same as the first fight because Marg couldn't connect the way he did the first time. He was missing a lot and his body shots weren't there for this fight. Cotto moved non stop and kep Marg from really touching him much.

Cotto was on his way to a UD easily, even though I think the last rounds would have been the toughest for him but he was looking much fresher because he wasn't getting hit as much as in the first fight.

Margarito is DONE. He looked like he was throwing punches underwater. He was never fast but he just looks like a worn fighter. No movement of the head like before, he wasn't catching any of Cotto's jab's or right hands. He was just coming forward with a slow jab and was being countered easily with a right hand.

I don't know whether Marg cheated in his fight with Cotto and I don't think this fight can tell you much of that because Marg really didn't connect like he did in the first fight but perception is everything. The perception is he did, he failed to redeem himself and Marg's career sad for me to say, is tainted and done.

It was a shame the fight ended on the eye swelling but I posted on Friday saying I thought that was one of my worries.

To all of you I owe e-points, let me know how much I owe. Tinta I think I owe you 1 million or is it 10 million? Don't know let me know.

        Cuauhtemoc I congratulate you.

I'm not arguing that Margarito's chin is tailored for Cotto, but the eye was their gameplan the entire time. He even said he'd take advantage of it in the presser. To me, Cotto was looking to draw the fight out and abuse Margarito's blind spot by circling to the left and catch Margarito flush. It didn't look healthy, and Cotto was controlling him.
08 Margarito was a beast but would have lost to a prepped Cotto, I won't argue that it'd probably have been a UD(Cotto's not explosive like Mosley or as quick as Pac) but he wasn't going to take nearly as much punishment. He was younger and more energetic. Cotto was a little firecracker. If he followed the same plan as tonight he'd probably have moved on to Mayweather or DLH in his next fight without question.

That's to be argued and debated but I would put my money on prime Marg vs prime Cotto at 147 any day of the week. You are right though, the clinching, moving and keeping off the ropes could have won that fight for him but it's a hard fight for him no matter how you look at it.

Cotto did a great job, kept his cool and didn't let Marg's talking to him in the ring really get to him. IDK if you know Spanish or could hear what Marg was saying but he was saying some crazy **** the whole fight...lol I never seen him like that.

Definitely not running because he was connecting while he was moving backwards. I will say he was forced to go back really fast, Marg has no regard for anything, dude is straight loco.

Cotto has always been incredibly respectful with Mexican fans / media. I have seen him interact with JMM on Mexican TV and there was no kind of beef whatsoever, the two of them very classy.

If my memory serves me correct, he was even called before the Pac fight by one of those morning tv shows, and the Mexicans there wished him the best, and hoped he beat Pacquiao.

Margarito could've been stopped by a bodyshot and people like you, Maniac, xcaret...they would've made up incredibly creative ways to spin it.

I agree. If it's any consolation to Margarito, Cotto never really hurt him. I'm very surprised that Margarito's chin has held up for so many years. He has one of the best chins ever in boxing. Even when he got knocked out by Mosley (before the knockout), Margarito was getting hit by punches with Mosley's ENTIRE weight behind it. These were hailmary punches and Margarito was just like, "**** it. You don't scare me." Even when Mosley hurt Margarito with that uppercut/straight right combination at the end of the eighth round, he had to land 10-12 bombs to finally put him down. Talk about a chin...Margarito is TOUGH.

BTW, Cua...you don't owe me 5/10 million, you owe me a mere 1 million.
