Imagine if the fight didn't take place in NYC.
It would've probably been tougher mentally, but I disagree that Cotto wasn't going to last 12 rounds last night. Too much pride. Margarito would've had to taken him out to win, and with the punches Cotto was still landing, that eye was going to get worse.

the only fighter he's beat since the scandal was some unknown dude in Mexico.
I think it's safe to say that Margarito is nothing without cheating!
To his credit, those were all losses to great fighters. I think Margarito can still beat "meh" or decent opposition. But given that eye, he CANNOT fight against big, elite punchers. Kirkland would've knocked that eye out of its socket. Margarito is done in boxing, at least at the elite level.

The only difference between last night and the first was strategy.

Cotto was slightly busted up from the shots Marg did land, however the reason he wasn't ripped to pieces this time is because Marg didn't land 1/4 of those unanswered punches he did in the first fight.

Props to Cotto for the excellent adjustments (clinching, pivoting and turning Margarito in both directions, pushing off, staying in the center of the ring and punching out of the clinches). this time around, and that's what won him the fight.
I'm impressed. I was expecting your usual ******ity, but this post wasn't half bad!!

He got caught with USED plaster wraps. In order for wraps to be USED, that means you USED them before. Do you need me to post webster's definition of USED?

He already got away with using plaster before; hence the USED wraps. Just stop.

My thoughts exactly, in fact had Cotto thought that the only thing that lost him the first fight was plaster, and had decided to come with the exact same gameplan he would have lost.

Marg assumed he could beat Cotto the exact same way he did the first time, and when Cotto didn't allow him to execute as easily, he had already lost.

Had the eye not been an issue though, this might have been a completely different fight.

Ever think the only reason Cotto was able to maintain that great movement is because he wasn't getting hit with plaster?

Precisely. Thank you for reaffirming what objective posters must state. People are quick to jump the gun and either say:

              Cotto wins- Margarito cheated.
              Margarito wins- he was clean.

It's not that cut and dry. Margarito still displayed his remarkable chin and enormous pressure, the difference is that Cotto did not play to Tony's strength. Margarito had his spots and Cotto looked MARKED UP after the fight, but he fought a completely different fight and made Margarito look silly.

If people want to complain, then that's on them.

Cotto did what he should have done in the first fight.

Moved better, attacked better, held when he needed to, stood his ground and actually pushed Margarito back occasionally.

Margarito couldn't get to Cotto. He was more frustrated in this fight .... Also, Margarito looked slower, had that eye issue and he did not appear to be as focused as in the first one.

Naw, Im not butt hurt. I give Cotto credit for the win. But IMO all he did was run all night, and fought like he was scared to get hit.

im sorry but you CAN NOT say Marg's cheated off of last nights night alone. you just cant. He had a servilely battered eye in his last fight and then a very very very long lay off. I would go as far to say that it would have been a completely different fight last night if Marg's took a tune up before the rematch.

with that said Cotto used great movement last night to limit the even slower than normal Marg's pressure. Cotto was beginning to slow but i dont think he would have been KO'd if it had gone 2 more rounds. Cotto won but, i dont think it was the kinda win he was hoping for.

Well I haven't read any of their post, but If I were a Margarito fan, I can see some fustration. People are trying to use this fight as proof Margarito cheated his whole career, when any rational, non biased fan would see this simply isn't proof that he did.

With that said, I also wanted to point out that Cotto have excellent defense for Tony's uppercut by leaning into his chest, and also with his arm placement so Tony couldn't sneak anything up the middle.

I honestly don't see why more people aren't given props to that Cuban coach as I have never seen such a huge jump in a fighter in such a short amount of time.

Also when you think about it, Rigondeaux, Lara, Solis etc are all fundamentally sound, so maybe that guy is severly underrated and one of the best in the sport.
