      THE FACTS

Vitali took the fight on just 10 days notice.

Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards at the time of the controversial doctor stoppage. Lewis barely survived the 2nd round and almost got KO'd, he was badly hurt, holding on for dear life, wobbling everywhere and staggering around the ring like a drunk. Lewis was badly hurt several times in the fight and was getting outboxed, outworked, outmuscled and outlanded by Vitali.

      punches landed

      Vitali 156

      Lewis 102

Lewis was exhausted, worn down and hurt from the accumulation of punches and was ready to get KTFO again, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was clearly the fresher of the two, he was a man on a mission and would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued.

After the fight, Vitali intimidated the shit out of Lewis and made him look like a bitch.

All the fans at Staples Center cheered for Vitali and booed Lewis after the fight.

      Lewis promised Vitali a rematch.

Vitali destroyed Kirk Johnson in 2 rounds and called out Lewis again in the post fight interview. The scared Lewis retired shortly after that fight.

Lewis turned down 40 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew he would get destroyed by Vitali.

Vitali dominated Lewis and scared his bitch ass into retirement.

George Foreman: "Vitali was winning the fight. Lewis got lucky. There has to be a rematch!"

Jim Lampley: "A lucky escape for Lewis who was clearly losing the fight"

Even Emanuel Steward was upset and pissed off at Lewis for blatantly ducking a Vitali rematch.

Lewis is scared to death of Vitali.
im with you about this, lol, i think vits greater due to he was probably gonna beat lewis, lewis won so lewis retired rather than to give vitali a promised rematch, lol, vitali cant lose a round nowadays and hes like 100 years old, lol, lewis got lucky that the fight got stopped, lol, i can see why the poster can argue lewis being the best heavyweight ever but vitali is greater in my opinion, i never seen a force like him and im not even a big vitali fan,

I don't think that LL is the greatest anything, despite what Big George might have said.

But I applaud your response to the Klit-bot.

Imo, Lewis didn't take boxing seriously enough to be "the greatest".

I base this opinion on him being KO'd twice by far inferior fighters in his prime and coming in out-of-shape to fight Vitali and almost losing that fight.

        Notice I said almost.

I won't get into the career arcs of the other HoFrs that LL fought as (in my eyes at least) the above mentioned facts disqualify him from being "the greatest".

...and in his last fight, when he was not on top of his game

the ''Lewis was fat and shot'' argument is ******ed, but he was definitely not at his very best

Lewis is definitely up there. Completely annihilated Vitali.

And he 'could' be the greatest, same way Louis, Ali and all the other top guys could be. Personally, I don't think there is an absolute greatest. There are certaintly a lot of top guys that shine brighter than the rest, and on any given night could probably beat each other.

they all lost at some point if you leave Marciano aside, sometimes at the hands of lesser fighters

do you believe Ali was taking boxing seriously when he was coming to fight totally out of shape (see the Young fight) just to get pummeled and get a gift decision ?

did Lewis lose to Rahman because of a lack of focus ? I doubt it

maybe he lacked focus FOR AN INSTANT, and that is all that it takes

and he did avenge both losses, by KO

that means Lewis beat EVERYBODY THAT EVER STEPPED IN THE RING WITH HIM

only he and Marciano have achieved that in their weight class

I find it hard to question Lewis work ethic or will because he lost 2 fights

if he wasn't in shape for Vitali, it's only because he was scheduled to fight a far easier opponent

true, but at the same time, Tunney and Spinks don't belong in the greatest HW discussion

they made most of their best work at LHW

I was talking about natural HW who spent their whole career at the weight...

thanks anyway for your reply, I did forget Jeffries for a second
