Maliginaggi, love him or hate him, he's one tough ass motherfucker. I couldn't hold that against Cotto for not knocking him out.

It's funny how years later good wins can suddenly become bad wins. Just about everyone cotto fought was highly ranked and rated at the time. Ricardo Torres (undefeated), Carlos Quintana (undefeated), and paulie, guys like that, those are underrated wins now but at the time were very solid wins.

Cotto was indeed never elite, had good skill but he wasn't an A-rated boxer. That's for sure.

There's a tendency for people to equate punching power with chin. They look at Malignaggi's KO % and think, "That guy's a bum." and they couldn't be more wrong.

Malignaggi is tough and has a lot of heart. He's feather-fisted but the man can take a punch and is in there for the long haul.

I wouldn't go that far. He was in the fight up until the 11th round where he absolutely had noting left. But sledgehammered? I'd reserve that term for such fight results as:

Prescott KO1 Khan
Pacquiao KO2 Hatton
Martínez KO2 Williams

or vicious one-sided beatdowns:

Pacquiao UD12 Margarito
Julio Cesar Chavez UD12 Camacho
Kirkland TKO6 Angulo

You know...fights where, while they were unfolding, one fighter was NEVER (or only rarely) in the fight.

Cotto was in that fight score-wise and was tagging Margarito at will. Margarito's harder chin, bigger heart, higher workrate and bottomless stamina wore down Cotto en route to a stoppage. But up until that submission by Cotto, he was only trailing by 1 or 2 points on the scorecards. The fight was still close. Bloody fight? You bet. Wipe-out? Naaaaaaah.

I never rated Torres tbh, but it was good showing by Cotto for coming back after getting hurt quite bad during that fight.

I always saw Quintana as a solid boxer.

Cotto was always a good boxer imo. Is he one of the greats? No, but that doesn't mean he was "never really that good"

Cotto is an all time great. No need to defend that matter when his resume speaks for itself.

Never ducked and dodged anyone and only two losses following this risky pattern. One which is tainted by a wrapping controversy, one which he'll have the opportunity to avenge this December. The other came at the hands of what many consider to be the greatest fighter of all time.

Cotto is a sure Hall Of Famer and all time great when it's all said and done. A rematch and win over Pacquiao would solidify that.

Mosley not a challenge? but Margarito couldn't beat him. Floyd and Pacquiao fought him years later.
