World middleweight champion Sergio Martinez believes his most realistic chance of winning recognition as the world's best boxer lies in a bout with American Floyd Mayweather Jr. The 36-year-old Argentine (48-2-2), named 2010 Fighter of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America, told BoxingScene.com that Manny Pacquiao was reluctant to take him on.
Congratulations Sergio, you're confident you can knock out a welterweight. Damn you're good.
It's a little unfair to Sergio to act as if he's picking on smaller guys. He moved up himself and has fought some tough opponents and rightfully won the middleweight crown by beating the best. He deserves a big fight and, like middleweight champs of eras past, is looking for it in divisions below. Historically, that's where the big money has been - not in super middle or 175. I am not putting him in their class but he's not doing anything that Hagler or Hopkins didn't do.
Martinez knows he doesnt have that many good days in boxing left, he is really up there in age (for a boxer) and he is trying to secure the best pay day possible. So who does that leave Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. He can fight Alveraz or Chavez jr and make maybe 1 million or fight floyd or manny and make 10 mil plus ppv buys.
But expect a fight with manny is ******ed
The ONLY reason why Martinez could possibly be seen as ******ed is because Manny " padded " Pacquiao is full-of-****.....
Pacquiao is an ex JMW champion who fought for Sergio's title, and he said this..... " I will fight anyone at 150 " ~ Manny Pacquiao
