Not In Pacquiao's League
First of all I'm a fan of Pacquiao, Mayweather, Marquez, Martinez, Ward, Donaire, Gamboa, Arce etc. I don't root for a single boxer, but I do notice that there are exceptional boxers both in skills and in character and one of them is Pacquiao because he never trashes other boxers. Maravilla may be one of the best boxers right now and could even become pound for pound king but he can never be in the same league with Pacquiao because of his continuous trashing of other boxers. Sergio exposes his many insecurities when he tries to make himself look good by trashing other boxers, this is a no class attitude of a guy who boxes well. I'm sorry to say this, but Sergio Martinez will leave the boxing scene without crating for himself a true legacy just like what he fears not because he lack the exceptional skills in boxing but because he has no class, and believe me that is worst.

This is getting sad
Martinez wants a big fight not only to be remembered, but he wants his wallet full. Unfortunately you sealed your faith months ago when you resigned with Dibella. That was your mistake Sergio, and now you must live with it.
I love Dibella, but in today's boxing he just can't compete with the Top Ranks and Golden Boys. He can't! This is why Martinez was so easliy stripped of his title by the wbc. This is why he can't get a fight with Pacquiao, Mayweather, Chavez Jr, or Alvarez, heck he probably won't get a fight with Kirkland since I bet GB is gonna try to rebuild him up.
He is stuck with Dibella and his best chance to get paid is probably a rematch with Pavlik. Unless he decides to risk it and challenge Sturm in Germany (who by the way has a good following there)

And I think Pac and Mayweather fit your description of great welters who moved up and challenged themselves. Not quite on the level of Duran and Leonard but then again, Martinez isn't quite on the level of Hagler or Hopkins either nor is he a natural middle like they were.

Second of all, Martinez is a walking punching bag who Margarito ktfo and we all know what Pac did to Marg.
Thirdly, Martinez just turned down a career high pay day at someone his own weight who has been calling him out for years. He is a ducker plain and simple and doesn't deserve the million dollar paydays HBO is giving him and he damn sure doesn't deserve a Pacquiao payday.

Sergio has the balls to challenge WW but no courage to challenge MW contenders. LMAO
This happens when we talk about the money.
