But, the last big fight in Denver, Johnston-Castillo way back in 00', sold pretty well. Johnston was from Denver and Castillo was Mexican.

Denver Metro (3+ million) is over one-third Latino, mostly Mexican, and will come out and support Margarito. It'll be the same thing if the fight happened in Phoenix, where Top Rank is also going to visit today as well. Phoenix has tons of Mexicans, just like Denver, and it could sell at least 60-70% of the arena, even in a with a week or so to do it. The PPV won't be hurt, because no one was buying the fight because it was in MSG.

However, the location hurts Cotto and spells disaster for him. Even Phoenix is 2,000-3,000 feet in elevation, dry climate, no Puerto Ricans in the crowd for him, tons of Mexican fans for Margarito. In Denver it's 5,280 feet in elevation, dry climate, no Puerto Ricans in the crowd, tons of Mexican fans for Margarito. Even in Dallas, while it's not high in elevation and isn't a dry climate, the only fans will be for Margarito, just like in Denver and Phoenix. This all spells disaster for Cotto.

Even though I'm pretty amped up about the fight possibly being in my city, I don't see why they couldn't have found a neutral site. Chicago (a lot of Puerto Rican fans but some Mexican fans, low elevation, normal climate)???
it really doesn't have to do as well in terms of selling out but if the price points are lower enough given the time it will pack the house. I think that is why TR is angling towards venues where there is a heavy Mexican presence (Phoenix and Tucson are in play) they can get an immediate audience

I just find it weird or more like shady that Margarito has always trained in Tijuana, Mexico & Oxnard, California & Los Angeles(when he was trained by Capetillo) ALL at sea level & for this fight his team decides to go to the extremely high altitude in the mountains of Mexico..While Cotto trains at sea level in Orlando, Florida..Now the card might have to change location because of something the promoter(Arum) SHOULD HAVE taken care of BEFORE the fight was made..& out of ALL places to go, he decides between Denver, Colorado & Phoenix, Arizona(which are at high altitudes) & by looks of it, Denver is the favored place for Arum..¿Denver? ¿When has a major PPV card ever taken place in Denver? I believe since Stevie Johnston, there hasn't been any other title fights in Denver & that was because he was from there & out of his 12 title fights, ONLY 2 were in Denver & out of 50 fight career only 10 were in Colorado(including the 2 title fights)..There are so many other places where this fight could take place like in Miami or Orlando, Florida(In the Orlando area there's a good amount of Boricuas & Mexicans) or he had mentioned Dallas, but there's already something going on there on that date, but there's also San Antonio & Houston(In Houston there's also a good amount of Boricuas & of course Mexicans) or Chicago where it's basically a 50/50 split between Boricuas & Mexicans & all these places are more or less at sea level where NEITHER fighter will have an advantage..& in a week 1/2 Cotto WILL NOT be able to adapt to the altitude..& the other thing I find REALLY SHADY is that in a couple of different occasions Arum has already mentioned Margarito as Chavez Jr's next opponent in an ALL Mexican Showdown most likely in Mexico or in a city where there's a major Mexican population..If the fight does change location & it's finally done in Denver in short time, it will seem like Arum threw Cotto under the bus & then told the driver to hit reverse to make sure he's been flattened!!!

Illinois probably wouldn't have passed Margarito they're pretty tough. Houston's arenas were booked. San Antonio- no clue I actually liked that scenario

Changing altitude is a disadvantage for Cotto beside not having any crowd support. It would take a few weeks to get used to Denver's altitude. Bad news for Team Cotto.

screw NYSAC and lathan...either SanAntonio /Denver would be great w/large Latino crowds...have to go w/ Cotto to win, wherever it is...

if Cotto only goes a few days before he'll be ok, like NFL teams...a lot of it is mental too...

                This..

Chicago would be perfect with it having huge Mexican and Puerto Rican communities but the Illinois Commission is very difficult to pass.

it's actually the first city I thought of but then having to deal with them before I knew it would bt difficult to pass Tony

Actually, Arum will make more money if the fight is moved.
All Ricans who bought the cheaper tickets in NY are now forced to buy the PPV @ $69 for the HD cast, while the cheaper tickets were in the range of 40-60 bucks.

The high altitude is a "killer" if you aren't used to it. You need 2 weeks for your body to adjust, Cotto is not gonna approve of that one while Magarito should be fine.
