Denver? Maybe they should've put Alvarado-Prescott in this card instead then.

It takes more than a few days to get adapted to high altitude, especially in Denver that's 5,280 feet above sea level(the Mile High City). It would take a couple of weeks to get adapted to that very dry & low oxygen level..& this is boxing where a fighters stamina HAS TO BE ON POINT, there are NO time out's, huddles, oxygen tanks on the sidelines or half times like in american football..

I believe since Stevie Johnston, there hasn't been any other title fights in Denver & that was because he was from there & out of his 12 title fights, ONLY 2 were in Denver & out of 50 fight career only 10 were in Colorado(including the 2 title fights)..There are so many other places where this fight could take place like in Miami or Orlando, Florida(In the Orlando area there's a good amount of Boricuas & Mexicans) or he had mentioned Dallas, but there's already something going on there on that date, but there's also San Antonio & Houston(In Houston there's also a good amount of Boricuas & of course Mexicans) or Chicago where it's basically a 50/50 split between Boricuas & Mexicans & all these places are more or less at sea level where NEITHER fighter will have an advantage..& in a week 1/2 Cotto WILL NOT be able to adapt to the altitude..& the other thing I find REALLY SHADY is that in a couple of different occasions Arum has already mentioned Margarito as Chavez Jr's next opponent in an ALL Mexican Showdown most likely in Mexico or in a city where there's a major Mexican population..If the fight does change location & it's finally done in Denver in short time, it will seem like Arum threw Cotto under the bus & then told the driver to hit reverse to make sure he's been flattened!!!
Don't worry bro. If NY denies Margarito a license then that means Margarito he is not in condition to fight and he probably shouldn't even be fighting anymore.

How would this fight do in Denver? When I was out there I did see some Mexican people, but hardly any Puerto Ricans.

It does take a bit to get used to it. Plus, Margarito has already been training in high elevation in Mexico.

All the advantages are pointing toward Margarito in this one. If the fight is in Denver or Phoenix, here's the advatanges.

Crowd: Margarito- Denver and Phoenix have huge Latino populations, so the fight should still sell well. Unfortunately for Cotto, this part of the country doesn't have hardly any Puerto Ricans. The closest city to Denver and Phoenix with large Puerto Rican communities is like Chicago, over 1,000 miles away in the Midwest.

Stamina: Margarito- He's been training at high elevations, and Denver is over 5,000 feet in elevation. I was mistaken about Phoenix, it's only 1,100 feet in elevation, lower than Vegas' 2,000 feet. Though Phoenix and Denver are the same region, Phoenix is significantly lower in elevation. There's a reason that, besides Vegas, there aren't usually any big fights in Denver, C-Springs, Albuquerque, Salt Lake, Reno, Phoenix, Tucson, El Paso, and it;s because the elevation is higher than the rest of the country by far.

Exactly. Cotto might have to deal with altitude, but Margarito will have to deal with fighting using only one eye.

I live in Denver. The fight would still sell, because of Denver Metro's 3.1 million people, 1/3 (33%) of them are Latino. But, Denver has tons and tons of Mexicans, hardly any Puerto Ricans. The only Puerto Ricans in this part of the country are down at Fort Carson, CO in C-Springs, and that's because of the military people that live there, and Mexicans still out numbers Puerto Ricans by a s**t load in the Springs as well. It's the same thing with Phoenix and El Paso, 2 possible locations along with Denver.

It would sell because of the large Latino communities in Denver, which is probably why the scrapped the Mississippi idea.

Yeah I knew there were Mexicans but I saw like 2 Ricans & they were both in my cousins unit out there. Even in the Spings I dont remember seeing any. Hope the fight stays in NY.

But, the last big fight in Denver, Johnston-Castillo way back in 00', sold pretty well. Johnston was from Denver and Castillo was Mexican.

Denver Metro (3+ million) is over one-third Latino, mostly Mexican, and will come out and support Margarito. It'll be the same thing if the fight happened in Phoenix, where Top Rank is also going to visit today as well. Phoenix has tons of Mexicans, just like Denver, and it could sell at least 60-70% of the arena, even in a with a week or so to do it. The PPV won't be hurt, because no one was buying the fight because it was in MSG.

However, the location hurts Cotto and spells disaster for him. Even Phoenix is 2,000-3,000 feet in elevation, dry climate, no Puerto Ricans in the crowd for him, tons of Mexican fans for Margarito. In Denver it's 5,280 feet in elevation, dry climate, no Puerto Ricans in the crowd, tons of Mexican fans for Margarito. Even in Dallas, while it's not high in elevation and isn't a dry climate, the only fans will be for Margarito, just like in Denver and Phoenix. This all spells disaster for Cotto.

Even though I'm pretty amped up about the fight possibly being in my city, I don't see why they couldn't have found a neutral site. Chicago (a lot of Puerto Rican fans but some Mexican fans, low elevation, normal climate)???
So now boxing has got to the stage where to make "an even playing field", one must have the match where the numbers of fans are about equal...... How crazy can you bedbugs get??

The fightnormally goes to wherever it generates the most revenue, and which is agreeable to both parties. lso where the best arena for the purpose is available on that might, not as easy an assumption as people think. Then, the locals have to be interested in BOXING, not just hocky or basketball fans........ There's a lot more to making a fight in the right place than one can imagine.

Pretty intelligent of Arum to suggest( maybe) that margarito train this time in a high altitude. This may have been a back up plan in case the licence was refused in New York. And as he already must know every arena in the country, he's also have made sure which ones were available which had an altitude more favourable to his fighter than New York.. THAT'S what I call, "protecting your own fighter" as a promoter( and manaager) is supposed to do.
