The fightnormally goes to wherever it generates the most revenue, and which is agreeable to both parties. lso where the best arena for the purpose is available on that might, not as easy an assumption as people think. Then, the locals have to be interested in BOXING, not just hocky or basketball fans........ There's a lot more to making a fight in the right place than one can imagine.

Pretty intelligent of Arum to suggest( maybe) that margarito train this time in a high altitude. This may have been a back up plan in case the licence was refused in New York. And as he already must know every arena in the country, he's also have made sure which ones were available which had an altitude more favourable to his fighter than New York.. THAT'S what I call, "protecting your own fighter" as a promoter( and manaager) is supposed to do.

The UFC just had the Jon Jones VS Rampage Championship fight here for a big PPV event, don't act like we can't hold down a big boxing event down here. This fight would near sell out the Pepsi Center with only a week's notice, I can almost assure you that.

No, it was only a suggestion to liven up the conspiracy theorists. But it could be. After all Both fighters are Top Rank guys, and Arum's main concern is to maximize income for his fighters, and Top Rank. Also to bring good fights and good all-round programmes, although this is a more "dicey" problem as no one can predict how a fight is going to turn out for the fans. That's where a good matchmaker comes in. The most important person on the promoter's team.

But it seems centred on one person, that former mediocre ref, now a Commissioner, who put in the objection. And why asking for the exam only now, when they should have done so on October 31st.

Just checked on the internet and it seems that Melvina Lathan was getting $154,000 a year as Chief Commissioner, (plus lots of prestige) and Governor Mario Cuomo had to cut it out completely because of budget problems, and make it a pro bono position. Don't know if this is still the case, but she may be feeling peeved at anyone who's making money where she isn't. $154 thou....whew........As a judge she likely got $2,000 or less for a major fight.
