his claims that he fights the best competition are also questionable.

evander holyfield: far far past his prime and still manages to beat ruiz and draw once.
kirk johnson: ruiz didnt beat him, johnson was DQd. getting DQd is your fault, not the other fighters.
    roy jones: OWNED ruiz.
hasim rahman: two (choosing my words carefully) less than skilled fighters fighting in quite possibly the worst match in history. ruiz's performance in that fight erased any right ruiz had to say that he won.
fres oquendo: see above... with a highly questionable stoppage.
andrew golota: ruiz was dropped twice, and had a point deducted, and his trainer ejected, and yet he still won? somethings not right about that...
and james toney: ruiz loses a one sided fight (ruiz raised his hands in victory before the decision was read... thats just ******), toney tests positive, toney loses the crown, is suspended for 90 days, is fined, is suspended from fighting for the WBA HW title until may of 2007, ruiz is reinstated as the champ (for the 2nd time, without beating the man who beat him), and ruiz now has the gall to file a $10 million lawsuit against toney when ruiz has nothing to complain about?

the only noteworthy opponents ruiz can say he fought are roy jones, james toney, and andrew golota. the other fighters are good, but the circumstances in those fights nullify the quality of those "victories".

i used to respect john ruiz as a human being (cuz hes a father of two and is a little league coach), but now that this lawsuit has come about, john ruiz is officially the person in this world that i hate the most.

i tried my best to not flame.

You didn't "flame"....you posted a beautiful, well thought out post about the sport's biggest cancer.

    Excellent stuff.

        hm

Ruiz has beaten as good a fighters as this division has to offer and he has resurrected his career more than once. He deserves credit. His opponents have rarely found a way to get around his unappealing yet effective style. Anyone who can't step back and give him some kinda due props is not using their brain. I admit I root against Ruiz every time he fights but he does deserve some measure of respect for his ring accomplishments.

All that said, he's still a whiner and a hugger so ppl will continue to dis him.

Did you give Ruiz more than 3 rounds? lol

for you, Diego, I'll watch the fight again.

The thing is, while Toney could have taken him more forcefully, often he was allowing Ruiz to hit him and stood back.

Now - I KNOW that was Toney allowing him to do that, rather than Ruiz being too good for him, but it matters little for the scorecards.

But I never did score this fight, a sad little thing that I like to do, so I will tonight.

I had it 9-3, plus a knockdown for Toney. Not exactly a close fight.

But the rounds he won weren't exactly one-sided, and the KD was bogus anyway. (though, granted, as it was called, I'll have to include it).

As I said, I'll have another look at it. It was a win for Toney, but it wasn't the level of utter humiliation Roy heaped on him. I still love Ruiz's "Ah, ****!" expression and shrug of his arm when the final bell goes, as if he was just about to score the KO.

Actually, supe.....it takes boxing insight to see what a farce he is.

Roy Jones hurt Ruiz one time in the 3rd round. Toney busted Ruiz up ALL NIGHT LONG. Ruiz was hurting after the Toney fight. It's different if a "little guy" comes in and dances around you and outpoints you. It's a completely different story when one of the little guys comes up to your level and busts your **** up for 12 rounds. Toney did far more in his win than did Roy.
