How hard is it to understand for boxing fans that 500,000 buys doesn't equate to $35 million in the pocket for Floyd? It's 45 percent of that figure at most.

Not hating, just tired of seeing ignorant fans spout off ignorant numbers.

Same thing with Pac though...When you got people saying he "ONLY" had 700K buys...Then you know dude drawing power is very high...

These other numbers no other can do...People forget that there were times when Oscar couldn't even reach these type of numbers. Even in his peak.

That's why I laugh at the ******s who try to diss or discredit either fighter when they're events sell so much.

People are asking the wrong questions and letting fanboyism cloud their judgment. Instead of arguing over drawing power and who lost money, why not ask the most obvious question- why is HBO and GBP working so hard to keep the buy rate under wraps?

Anyone who says 1 million+ buys is a failure is an idiot, let's get that out of the way. So then if Iole's 'sources' are correct (and apparently they were dead wrong when they told him 1.3-1.4 million) and the fight did 1 million buys... why would that be gag order worthy?

I'm not buying (get it? ) the excuse that they're not releasing the number because it did less than Pacquiao-Mosley. Mayweather-Mosley did 1.4 million buys, then Pacquiao followed up with 1.2 million against Margarito. HBO and Top Rank didn't hide that number, in fact it was published by Taffet/HBO within a week. Why was there no conspiracy then?

Also not buying the idea that they're guarding the secret because it didn't meet expectations. Schaefer ALWAYS throws out outlandish and ridiculous estimates for PPVs- he said Floyd-Shane would do 3-4 million buys, by their recent 'logic' that's a colossal failure. He predicted Floyd-Ortiz would surpass the DLH fight and then claimed 1.7-1.8 million, anyone with half a brain knew it wasn't going to sniff anything in that neighborhood.

I just don't believe it came close to 1 million buys. 1 mil would be a cause for celebration and they would tell any news outlet willing to listen of their achievement, but for some reason Mark Taffet, the head of HBO PPV is deflecting questions about HBO PPV to promoters who refuse to talk about the issue?

Doesn't sound like people sitting on 1 million buys to me, but looks like we'll never know for certain because they are going to their graves with the real buy rate.

Exactly. UFC is lucky if they can do a million ppv buys. Floyd does it on a regular basis. And people say boxing is dead! Not when Manny and Floyd are fighting! These guys are CASH COWS.

They need to fight each other, and Pacquiao needs to ditch Bob Arum's ass. He's ripping Manny left right and center!

How can a promoter take 27% from you? (+an additional 5% from Golden Boy!)

Manny needs better financial advisory. Otherwise, he's gonna' be in debt before he retires!

Good points in post but you are forgetting the movie theatre numbers. From all accounts the movie theater/closed circuit buys were up substantially. This is good for boxing but bad for floyd in that people were paying $15-$45 on average, instead of $64.95 on ppv.

Showtime has yet to release the official pac mosly numbers as well. So clearly there is some gamesmanship going on. Maybe Floyd?Haymon are doing the same thing arum is.

Anytime a fight doesn't meet its expectations one could argue its a dissapointment. While I get what you and jrosales are saying that anything over a mil is good its not just about what is sold but how much was spent to sell it.

In pac shanes case, 1.3 is good except when you factor in they advertised during primetime NCAA games. The 30 sec spots cost signifcicantly more money to put on CBS in primetime then the regular advertising. So in this sense it ddn't do "well".

In floyd case he went on Conan, they replayed 24/7 on CNN. Instead of generating ppv sales these appearances seem to generate sales in movie theaters/closed circuit, where the company isn't making as much as they would if those same people bought ppv's. So in a sense it didn't do as well.

Its not just about sales its about return on investment.

If you still think this fight did 1.3 mil or better, you need help. Don't think it "flopped" on the level of a Pacquiao-Mosley but, at this point, I would be surprised if it cleared a mil.
