  • This is old news.

Ironically people say Ortiz is going to get Gatti'd, thats exactly what Bob thought would have happened to Cotto. Bob even protected Floyd from De La Hoya.

Everyone who's a fan of Top Rank knows if bob thinks his fighter won't win he won't make the fight. Hell he made it clear when he said he would have NEVER put Ortiz in the ring with Floyd... WTF do you think he did with Cotto and Pac years ago? Only now will the Pac fight happen because Pac is about to retire. Silly how people forget..

Do I really have to post what Arum said again? He said MAYBE in 06 Cotto would be ready for Floyd Or Hatton. Hatton? Hatton's people said that they weren't ready for Floyd after he beat Gatti AND Cotto wasn't even ready for Ricky either.
So Floyd follow suit. and did and sad what arum told him to??? Get it together men!!

And the last part is bull****, Hatton got offer a Cotto fight and turn it down!!

      • floyd/cotto SHOULDVE happened.... regardless of politics. although floyd gets the heat by default.

someone enlighten me why floyd/cotto didnt happen before cotto/margs??? thats when the WW division was HEATING UP... floyd was "retired" after hatton right??? i just dont remember whether arum was still "protecting" cotto at that time... or do we just blame arum for not sharing?

        • i've been saying this for years...they hinted at this during the bruselus fight...everything was set up for them to fight in the near future...then floyd destroyed that bum and arum said **** that...i will forever remember cotto's face when the camera closed in on him at ringside...

          • Floyd should have fought Cotto right after Cotto beat Mosley, but did you guys forget that Cotto lost to Margarito only a few months after that? Floyd vs Margarito would've been hot after that, but Margarito got killed by Mosley before he even made one successful defense.

Maybe the Cotto fight could've happened if Cotto beat Marg, but something tells me Arum would've put Cotto and Pacquiao against each other first, before he ever put them in the ring with Floyd. Those were his cash cows and the only way hed put their stock on the line is if it's gonna help him boost the stock of one of his other fighters

How can anyone deny this fact? Cotto and Hatton were at the Gatti fight.
Nobody can argue this shyt. Everyone knows the history as why Floyd left TR. Bob tried to stop Mayweather from making big money fights because he wanted to protect him from de la hoya and protect Cotto from Floyd.

Saying Floyd ducked Cotto is as about ******ed as saying Floyd ducked Gatti.

Who have Cotto have been if Floyd had beat him like Gatti back then? Sure as hell wouldnt be Pac's one and only meaningful fight at WW... even though Cotto was on the decline and had already quit in the ring.

Its sad to see some ****ing ******s try to change history. This shyt is OOOOOOOOOOOOLD news. lol Where the **** do they get these new fans from?

Hey, Bob Arum was promoting Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr at the time so if Bob says NO, Cotto is not ready for you Floyd, then that fight ain't happening. When did Hatton turn down a Cotto fight? Bob said that Cotto wasn't ready for Hatton in 05. Show me a link to an article where it says Hatton turned down a Cotto fight. That's news to me.

                • I don't think that Cotto's people EVER wanted any part of PBF, which was smart on their part -- no matter when they would have fought, I think that Mayweather would have beaten Cotto -- but on the other hand, Mayweather and his people have been overcautious in not matching him with Cotto -- the bottom line is that neither team ever pushed for this fight and came up time and again with excuses and finger pointing as to why it wasn't happening.

                  • Here's my most unbiased opinion.

I think Cotto was a better fighter at the end of 07, than he was in 05. TR might have turned down a Mayweather fight in 05, but it's post Cotto-Mosley is when the fans wanted Cotto-Mayweather. I have a few interviews from Mayweather on why the fight didn't happen between May-cotto in 2008. I won't post them.

Lastly, yes Bruseles did have a similar style to Cotto. But comparing Bruseles to Cotto is like comparing Forbes to Mayweather. They all have similar styles, but it won't give you a preview of how the real fight will play out.

I wanted to see a fight happen with Cotto/Floyd when both were undefeated. Would have been a good match up on paper and hype wise. I think it would have been a one sided thrashing in favor of Floyd. Cotto fought some hard fights but I always felt like he was too easy to hit and all you needed to do to beat him was to neutralize his power and pressure. Take away Cotto's punching power and he was there for the pickings. I think the Arum/Floyd beef was too out of control back then too.
