Good luck to bute then getting good ratings on Showtime against Karoly Balzay.

People know Glen Johnson. He was on the Showtime tournament. He's a veteran who's been in the ring with the best. He deserves respect. I'm not saying he should get $1.3 million, but less than $350k in a fight that's going to generate a lot of money and get solid ratings? Just flat out disrespectful. I agree with Johnson 110%

Bute and Kessler have both clearly outlined their career paths at this point. As in "least possible risk."

Kessler's plan is dependent on Froch beating Ward, whereas if Ward wins the Super 6 he has no reason to face Kessler. He already beat him in dominating fashion and the Bute fight would make more money and more sense.

That being said, I think it's crazy that people see Ward or Froch vs Bute as a foregone conclusion after the Super 6 is over.

Neither part is going to want to concede anything in the negotiations, location will be a huge hangup, and the winner of The SS would have to feel like it was a huge slap in the face to settle for a purse split of less than 60-40 after going through the gauntlet they have to get to where they are.
      good post.

the way i see it is this: if ward wins, like you say, kessler is out. who is ward gonna fight? he's too proud to fight opponents that bute's fighting. so he's in. he won't be the problem.

bute will have soooo much pressure on him from Quebec fans, from the entire COUNTRY of Romania, from his handlers and from Showtime to fight Ward. remember, he can make all this "he only fights brinkley, Magee, Miranda, Bika" **** go away the second he signs to fight Ward.

The problem is the site and the cash. but if everyone is reasonable then it should be promoted at the place that will make both athletes the most money (50/50 split of gate revenues after expense) -and- the travelling boxer makes 10% more of the Showtime money than the Hometown boxer. Establish that right off the bat so it's a fair choice to make. How fair is that...ha i'm gonna open a promotion company, who's with me?

Of course Bute doesn't want any of Glen Johnson. That would require having to show up and fight.

Hey we all love to watch and respect Glen Johnson but he is just a great TV fighter never a draw of any kind and yes the Montreal fans will come out to see Bute fight just about anyone and buy the PPVs he is on over there too. I am just trying to be objective and thinking about it the way boxing works, if Glen was paid for entertainment value he would be one of the highest paid fighters in the world today but he is not paid on that basis.

as much AS I like Glen, I don't want to see that fight, Bute has nothing to gain by fighting Johnson now

hopefully it will be Andre Dirrell

You're looking at it as "$350k, where else would johnson get that kind of money right now?" whereas we should be looking at the entire pot and the money generated from the event. Obviously Bute is the draw in Montreal, he will be against anyone so clearly he's going to get the majority of the money. With that said, because of how much money will be made it's only fair that Johnson earns a nice chunk of it. I mean we're talking about like a 80/20 split or even 90/10. That's all Johnson is asking for.

btw kessler made the right move. if froch wins, there is no way bute gets him befor kessler. froch got a score to settle with 3 belts in play. more belts = more money, especially in europe where ppv numbers are very strong for elite fights

Those are the ONLY two options as far as credible opponents go who may be available, other than Tavoris Cloud but that would have to be at a catchweight.

Dirrell, I think, is obviously the better choice but who knows if he's ready or would want/need a tune up first not too mention how much money do you think he would demand? I'm guessing a lot more than $350k.

Johnson, faded as he may be, is still a better opponent than Jessie Brinkley, Paul Mendy and Brian Magee, so it would be a step up for Bute and actually would do something positive for his career if he were to win in good fashion.

Bute-Johnson would be an action fight guaranteed and it would suck for something like this to stop it from happening. Glen deserves some cash someone said he is 0-2 I think they meant 1-1 but either way he is still a durable opponent and he looked good in the froch fight.

Pavlik for 1.35 is bull Pavlik deserved lilke 750k he wasnt even a champ at 168. Johnson for 350k and under is just disrespect they know Johnson is still a name and he has fought for showtime 2 times in a row at least 500k that would be a good well earned paycheck.

Also someone said that Kessler is outline is for Froch to win but even if Ward wins Kessler is still the WBC Emeritus Champ so if Ward wins he would have that belt and that would make Kessler his mandatory.

now i'm rambling. sorry, started drinking early.

another reason ward/bute gets made is both boxers have no other obligations, so showtime can say "look, let's sign a 2 fight deal right now. direct rematch, **** the belts. if the first fight generates top notch numbers, and if it was competitive, then automatic direct rematch for $x. If the first fight was in Montreal the next is in Oakland and vice-versa.
