I think anyone who turned down Margarito before '09 made one of the best choices in their lives, regardless of their reason(s). As for Mayweather, it's the best decision he's ever made because he went on to become a superstar.

Floyd became a superstar in 2009? He was the "guy" in boxing for several years before he ducked Margarito...and yeah he totally ducked Margarito.

Hell no, cheating in boxing is something only the lowest forms of sleaze do. In a sport that has been run by organized crime for almost the entirety of its existence, fighting against people who are actively cheating doesn't make you brave, it makes you an idiot. Margarito was cheating for a long time, I don't believe these claims that he didn't know what was going on.

IMHO, I think the only fighter we could say FMJ didn't fight was Cotto at the end of 2007 and early 2008.

Why are people still hanging a Margarito fight over Floyd's head despite the Margarito scandal that was brought to light in 2009?

Looking back on things, that was the best move Floyd made in his career...

No, I think marg should have been restricted from anymore fights in boxing unless they're were rematches against any of his prior opponents that he beat.

He might as well. I see marg's career going down the ****ter once Cotto beats him. He can go back to undercards or be the main event of FNF.

he took mitchell, judah, and baldomir as his alternative fights. then he took retirement as an alternative again. none of those guys are close to margarito. why would you fight mitchell at all? why would you fight judah coming off a loss to a journeyman? then he turned down 8 million to fight margarito because he was waiting for delahoya but then 3 months later he accepted 8 million to fight baldomir because he knew he was a bum and he wouldn't ruin his big delahoya payday. so as you can see it was not the money but the risk that made him avoid margarito. it's called ducking.

Baldomir manages to get himself in a better position to fight Floyd despite Margarito being at WW for 10 years by becoming lineal champ. Who can forget Jr.'s quote toward Margarito. "Can you name 1 name fighter on that m$%^fkers record?!" Something like that anyway.

Baldo and Oscar were a better deal than some toughman paperchamp WW at that moment.

What's funny is, when he rightfully fought Zab (a grudge match everybody wanted to see) he was getting criticized for not fighting the lineal champ. He fights the lineal champ... but that turns into "what about Margarito?" Again, Floyd's quote comes to mind. Marg gets in the ring with another big name prospect and then loses. Wins his next fight, then loses again.

Better argument for him ducking Cotto than Margarito. That's a business decision most fighters would've made on rockhands trying to get a DLH fight.
