But Arturo Gatti simply doesn't belong in the HOF for his boxing.
"Great" fighters engage in consistently great fights, so to me it's not always about how much talent you have, or how skilled, or how many titles u won. Sometimes it's just about what happens in the ring, and how much a fighter is willing to give of himself, and very few ever gave more of themselves in the ring than Arturo Gatti. His "boxing" is more than simply the sum of his talents and easily recognizable accomplishments such as titles, and wins.

True. But the HOF isn't about that. Its about greatness. I know what a HOF boxer is. And whenever Arturo Gatti fought one, he looked completely out of his league. You follow NBA basketball?

SCott SKiles has the record for assist in a game. That doesn't mean he belongs in the HOF with Magic. This is no diss to Gatti. He is a great warrior with tremendous heart.

Honestly, I agree but I think Gatti DID display greatness in the ring, just not the "typical" kind we are used to seeing such as winning so many titles, or defending it so many time etc. Gatti's greatness must be measured and recognized in a different way, and I think it will be by the IBHOF.

He will undoubtedly get "sympathy" votes and he will get votes from those who truly appreciate his work. I mean Ward, Ivan Robinson, etc. he has had some truly great and inspirational performances.

But watch him fight floyd or ODH.

If we are only inducting fighters on their in ring accomplishments then no, but that's not really all the criteria. I'd put him in.

Gatti belongs in the IBHOF without a doubt. You couldn't guess the thousands of people his fights with Ward alone turned on to the sport of boxing so that alone merits his entry.

Yes, Gatti deserves it, for all the exciting war. Then if in the IHOF there is place for Bobby Chacon, why not for Arturo?

There will be rare men who transcend the ideal scientific criterias for eligibility.

These wondrous exceptions to the rule are necessary, to keep the thing from becoming stilted and stale.

Gatti is one such scarce exception - and, ofc, there are guys in there who shouldn't be already, at least one or two who you could argue are less deserving of inclusion than Arturo.
