  • Margarito? Gimme a break. Floyd wouldve played speed bag with him.

Too slow on his feet. Too slow with his hands. Has a weakness to body shots. Leads with his face.

Margarito gets beaten up rather easily by Floyd. Can that really even be argued?

Margarito was getting outboxed by FREAKIN Paul Williams.

    Gimme a damn break.

If Arum would have accepted the offer to make the Oscar fight for Floyd, then Margarito and Cotto would have got it. Still don't understand why people blame Floyd for that, when Arum has been keeping fights from happening then and still to this day. If Margarito did have a chance it would have been because of the possibility that he had an illegal substance in his gloves. All in all, I think Oscar at 154 was more of a challenge for Floyd then Margarito would have been at 147. Paul Williams boxed around Margarito and beat him with movement and angles. I can only imagine what Floyd would have done to Margarito. Would have been like Baldomir.
Marg was rank #1. And, the longest reigning title holder in the division at the time.

Also was an option along with Spinks to replace Judah. Yet Floyd picked the one who was coming off a lost to a journeyman.

Also Floyd could have fought Margarito instead of Baldomir and still be able to buyout his contract and fight Oscar.

So how is this not ducking?

      But, whatever.

8-4 no matter how we slice it. Is a loss.
I have literally just this second broken down why that doesn't mean they both have the same chance.

That would mean Judah had more of a chance to beat Mayweather than Corrales. Which obviously isn't true.

I can list example after example.

Margarito would have a better chance in 2006 than Ortiz now because he is stronger, more durable, a harder style match up, won't back up, and will be more difficult to control range as opposed to Ortiz.

The fact they both would probably win less than 4 rounds is irrelevant to that.

I see what youre saying. I get your point.

But at the end of the day either you stop the guy or you win more rounds.

If Marg can only muster up 4 which is a stretch in itself then that means whether he was strong, tough, big or whatever it sill means he got his ass busted and that his opponent won twice as many rounds as he did.

My point is simply that Margarito realistically did not have much chance at all of beating Mayweather. To this day I never understood why people thought this.

Margarito isnt a tougher style match up. His come forward, face first , slow swinging, no jab style is tailor made for a sniper counter puncher like May. Jab to the body right over the top, clinch when Marg gets to close, rinse and repeat.

            I agree.

That still doesn't change the fact that Ortiz has much less of a chance to beat Mayweather than Margarito did.

Keep in mind that they were looking to fight Cory Spinks after Judah lost to Baldo.
Are you really that ignorant? I just provided FACTS and PROOF that the fight was already situated before Baldomir. What are you talking about? AND Zab was still the IBF and WBA champion of the world. Looks like you are digging for excuses. When was Floyd looking to fight Cory Spinks after Zab Judah lost to Baldomir? Floyd was thinking about fighitng Cory Spinks AFTER he beat Zab Judah because he split from Bob Arum because he wanted to fight Oscar BUT Oscar postponed his decision to fight him, so Floyd wanted to move up and fight Spinks but Spinks had a mandatory defense, so Floyd fought Baldomir. Look at you! Always on here trying to throw dirt on my knowledge of boxing but you are slowly exposing yourself as a bias, fabricator. You are WRONG on all accounts and the man you dislike the most was the one to put you on front street. Must really sting.

You provided facts that there was an agreement before hand. Your facts also showed that the fight was not set in stone. That there was nothing signed. Do you not see the difference?

Because Floyd told Arum to serve up Cotto/Hatton for 10MIL and the Oscar fight, if he wanted him to fight Margarito. Those are Arum's words not mine. Zab Judah was the Undisputed WW champion when Floyd agreed to fight him (Before Baldomir) AND Baldomir became the Ring champ and the WBC champion. Where was Margarito? How was he ranked @1 when Baldomir was the ring champion?

                    • Is everybody on here so much of an F'ing idiot. That they do not understand the difference between an agreed upon contract to a signed a contract?
