No, Martinez is 36-37yo, has less than two years left in the game, is the man at JMW/MW, and is looking for a payday.

I am not disagreeing with your sentiment regarding " what should happen ". Just pointing out that he is at the end of his career, is UNDENIABLY the man at JMW/MW, and in light of the #1 P4P's history over the last two years..... is more than entitled to a stay-busy until a money fight comes along.

Lets not forget that Pacquiao remains the P4P #1 by fighting old men, faded champions, and bums..... at least this guy is young and prime, albiet green.

Sure, we can set all kinds of " standards ", but lets keep it real here.

Pacquiao became the #1 welter, having never actually fought a welterweight at 147, Martinez will NEVER become the P4P #1, end of story.

Not his fault, he has to settle for Barker.

Your knowledge of boxing appears to be severely lacking. I say that, because you claim that Sergio is the #1 Middleweight in the world and has been ducked by the fighters you listed. This is clearly false.
Everyone knows that the Undisputed Middleweight champion JCCJR is the #1 Middleweight in the world, everyone knows that he is actually the one who has been ducked by Sergio.

It's pathetic that Sergio stans must invent falsehoods and slander the names of great champions like JR, in order to make their idol's continuous ducking seem acceptable in the eyes of the people. Those of you defending Sergio should be ashamed.

Geale should speak up if he actually wants the Martinez fight. Make it public. If he doesn't say anything, I'm just going to have to believe Dibella.

I don't still have my copy of The Ring from that time, but I'm pretty certain you're wrong and that they ranked him at Jr Middleweight. He had never even fought a Middleweight at Middleweight. His fight with Cintron was at Jr Middleweight, and his previous fight with Martinez, and his fight with Winky, were at catchweight. And he had never beaten anyone ranked in The Ring's top 10 at Middleweight.

If he really was ranked at Middleweight, then it was an anachronism, as he hadn't the record at the weight to justify it.

i deff hope someone interviews him soon to see what's up. him, njikam, rubio, and pirog are all still not scheduled for a fight, i wonder why njikam and especially rubio wasn't mentioned...all those guys would've been better opponents than this barker guy...like i said in another post, the martinez camp did say they want to take an easy fight after the dzinziruk bout, so i'm assuming this is it.

You're probably correct in saying that his fans are just casual fans who know close to nothing about boxing. Though I find it strange that they have become enamored with a fighter who can't sell out a shoebox. How did they even find out about this "man"?

It does seem like Geale want to fight Martinez, but he probably wants to get his mandatory over with or avenge his one loss first.

Dibella said in another interview a few days ago that Geale doesn't want the fight right now because he wants to make a hometown defense in Australia before moving on. Makes sense. (at the end)

Why can't they just fight Pirog? Is HBO not letting them. I honestly have no idea who Darren Barker is...
