hey leaduppercut you must think you know everything about boxing but your wrong. pac's had 4 fights at welterweight and three have been at 147 limit oscar and old man mosley and clottey. he fought cotto at 145 and that was all b.s those two pounds were just to get a little psychological advantage he could have fought cotto at 150 and still whooped his ass. cotto was and never has been an all time great but he is a real tough welterweight and has the balls of a real fighter unlike coward the duck maynever. and the margarito fight was at 150 when mar is really a welterweight and yeah lets say it was a bull**** 8 championship fight ok your right but 7 weight class champ or 8 no big difference. what kills me about the coward the duck fans is that they bash pac's opponents and say that they are all washed up but yet maynever all of a sudden wants to clean up boxing when pac steam rolled his p4p status. come on maynever showed the biggest fear every when he claimed steroid use by pacman and avoided martinez repeated challenge. I feel deeply sorry for all three of maynevers fans how do you bash pac's opponents it's not like coward the duck has a hall of fame record at ww.he's fought sharbma mitchell a lifelong jr.ww and a washed up bum zab judah who couldn't beat a real welter to save his life and got mopped against clottey and cotto in a horrible way and lost to baldomir a stiff robot with 10 losses. than maynever fights balodmir who's claim to fame is beating that jr.ww bum judah. fights a slightly better oscar than manny but who cares oscar was a hyped up mexican money making machine that lost 90 percent of his major fights from 1999 to retirement(but it was maynevers big money fight so who could blame him). fights hatton jr.ww punching bag hatton for the money ok i'll give maynever a pass first fight after oscar made him. and wanted to make another killing against a punching bag.then fights a lightweight marquez (because he was the number 2 p4p ) ok maynever real fans real buy that cliam. i guess coward got tried of fighting bum ljr welters and wanted to fight a lightweight and than his career defining fight at welterweight and his biggest win against 38 year old mosley, who prove to be passed it once he fought mora. so all 3 of you maynever fans understand that floyd's resume at welter is absolutely weaker than pac's and the three uncommon opponents they got clottey ,cotto, margarito vs baldomir, judah, sharmba mitchell i would take pac three victory's and fighters over maynever everyday off the week and twice on sunday. and lets forget the argument of pac fighting marquez because they have bad blood and have fought twice already and the 38 year old mosley that floyd fought and the 39 year old that pac fought they were the exact same fight and mosley was chosen by maynever because he wanted the biggest payday that wasn't pac(because he was scared of pac) and arum took mosley because he was the biggest name and biggest payday available to pac. get over it coward the duck fans your coward was been outed by the boxing public and the public for the last three years or more. No more running and hiding maynever !!!!

This fight as I see it, is just an strategy of DiBella to run Arum out of contenders for Chavez Jr. So he has to face a real champion or a stronger opponent at least. Smart move from DiBella but is forgetting at some point the well being of Sergio's career. It only makes him look like mediocre promoter.Comment

not a good look for sergio... i dont think anyone can justify this fight...
another no-hoper....
168 couldve been a legit option... or the endless names @ 154...Comment

why doesnt he just move up to 168 and stay and campaign there? Better fights in that division and definitely better $$$, besides, he's not really that small compared to them.
Martinez-5'10
PWILL-6'1
Andre Dirrell-6'2
Andre Ward-6'
Carl Froch-6'1
Glen Johnson-5'11
Mikkel Kessler-6'1
Lucian Bute-6'1
Alan Green-6'2
Arthur Abraham-5'9
Kelly Pavlik-6'1
Robert Stieglitz-5'11
Sakio Bika-6'
Dimitri Sartison-5'9
Karoly Balzsay-6'
Thomas Oosthuizen-6'4(a lil tall i guess)
My point is that all those guys are better options for Maravilla then
Barker(6'1) imo, i could be wrong. Or maybe DiBella is giving Sergio a "gimme" fight? I dont know too much about the guy....Comment

Tyson is 5'10 - do you think Martinez is as big as Tyson? Do you think therefore that Martinez should be fighting at Heavyweight?
Qawi, an ATG Light Heavyweight, was 5′ 5½″. Does that make Qawi smaller than Pacquiao in your book? Do you think that means Pacquiao should be fighting at Light Heavyweight?
Height is irrelevant when it comes to weight classes. Tall skinny fighters are not bigger than shorter, more well built ones. Size is measured in terms of mass, and boxing has weight classes rather than height classes for a reason.
The fact is that Martinez is a natural Jr Middleweight who is already campaigning above his natural weight class in order to get bigger paydays. But he's the lineal Middleweight champion now, and he should be clearing out his division by fighting top 10 Middleweights, starting with Sturm.Last edited by Dave Rado; 06-14-2011, 04:33 PM.Comment

No, I specifically remember, Williams was definitely the #1 contender.I don't still have my copy of The Ring from that time, but I'm pretty certain you're wrong and that they ranked him at Jr Middleweight. He had never even fought a Middleweight at Middleweight. His fight with Cintron was at Jr Middleweight, and his previous fight with Martinez, and his fight with Winky, were at catchweight. And he had never beaten anyone ranked in The Ring's top 10 at Middleweight.
If he really was ranked at Middleweight, then it was an anachronism, as he hadn't the record at the weight to justify it.
" HBO World Championship Boxing will televise Martinez vs. Williams live from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City New Jersey, starting at 10 PM ET/7 PM PST. Martinez' WBC middleweight championship will be at stake when he faces The Ring Magazine's No. 2 ranked middleweight in the world, Paul Williams "

Williams has only dropped a couple of spots since and is still ranked at #4.Comment

If you read my post, the comment that I made regarding Pac actually tied in with the Martinez situation.
Find me on another thread man, and a repost is fine, there are at least 2-3 active Pacquiao threads at the moment.
Your problem is, you will never be able to change this fact..... Pac has only ever fought TWO welters at 147, one was an old man and the other was a bum..... and his opponents since Marquez have ALL been either old men, faded champions, or bums.Comment

Good post, and I agree entirely with your sentiment, especially the bold.....If I had a dollar for every poster on these boards who confuses height with size I'd be a rich man. Boxing has weight classes rather than height classes for a reason.

I just got no problem at all with Martinez taking ONE stay busy fight in light of the current situation at MW (dry as a nun's c**t), and in light of his recent schedule.Comment

easy killer, the reason i put height is because i remember either dibella or martinez saying the smw were too tall...If I had a dollar for every poster on these boards who confuses height with size I'd be a rich man. Boxing has weight classes rather than height classes for a reason.
