just a question but what is making people think Ortiz has no shot against Mayweather?
My God, .... I've been following boxing since 2008 and you've been following boxing since, what...2004(?)... and you still don't understand that Ortiz has absolutely no chance in beating Floyd.
Sometimes the best vs the best can't happen. For whatever reason.
Right now, the best vs the best can't happen because one wants random OST with no cutoff(Nothing wrong with that, better tests are better for the sport) and the other wants a cutoff(for whatever reason).
OK fine, whatever it can't happen.
Now you fight the best available in your weight-class.
One instead of fighting the best available in his weight-class went and picked a damn aging LW. While the other chose the best prime fighter available in his weight-class.
It is what it is.
Pacquiao has to step up.
When the candidates on deck were Jmm, Mosley and Berto. The majority of fans although displeased with weight issues still picked Jmm as their ideal opponent for Pacquiao. Marquez has done nothing since that point in time to tarnish his name or diminish himself.
Now I think the Ortiz matchup is great, but if everyone really wanted to split hairs. It wasn't long ago that Victor Ortiz drew Lamont Peterson and was knocked out brutally in 6 rounds by a guy who went to war with the remains of Eric Morales. Then announced to the world he wasn't sure boxing was for him.
Personally I don't view Mayweather/Ortiz that way, however it is not difficult to focus on the negatives of either matchup. I think it's better to focus on the potential of an entertaining fight.

I agree. I don't see how u can't give him a chance. He has plenty of.power, he's a southpaw and he has a high skill level. I thought think is the kind of fighter everyone wanted to see Mayweather fight? Just lets u know how much alot of ppl hate the guy.
You can go check my post history. Go ahead...when the candidates were JMM, Mosley, and Berto. I was demanding Berto.
I didn't want to see Pac vs a shot to pieces Mosley. I spoke against that fight and I didn't even ordered it. I streamed it.
I didn't want to see Pac vs an aging LW at WW. I said that fight would be great at 135. But, if Pac couldn't make 135 then don't fight him.
I asked for the best available WW which was Berto at the time. That was the best available fight.
And, Pac chose the weakest one.
Now again Pac has a choice and chose the weakest one.
Don't tell me what idiots wanted cuz' I don't care.
Pac is picking weak fights right now. Pac has to start stepping his game up.
I personally didn't think Berto should have been the pick at that point. For the very reasons he wilted against Ortiz. He was still a very much unproven commodity. With several warning signs as to why he might not shine on the highest level, at least yet.
Personally at that time, I had Jmm at one with Berto at 2 and Mosley at 3. We know what we got and now we're getting what for many(albeit not you) was the first look. Would Ortiz also have been a good fight for Pac? Yes, but I'm not going to act like I had been clamoring for it or any other fighters in particular at WW. Not necessarily a kudos to Jmm as an opponent as much as it is the reality of a shallow welterweight division.

Ortiz has no shot at all against Floyd or Manny. I'm willing to put up 10 million e-points if Victor wins more than 2 rounds (and that's me being generous).
IMO the Maidana fight set Victor back big time, and the Berto win was just a smoke screen Victor. Now this isn't me ****ting on Victor because I'm a person who want's him to suceed. IMO I just wanted him to take a couple of fights before stepping up against Floyd or Manny (although I guess with Floyd and Manny's age, a shot like this may never come again).
Also, fwiw, I have been saying this since the night of the Berto fight. I felt it was more Andre being overrated than Ortiz being good that night. Just my two cents, but neither Pacquiao vs Marquez and Ortiz vs Mayweather will be competitve at all. I expect TKO or KO stoppages in both.
Not including Manny, the only guy with a chance to beat Floyd (147 and below) is Amir Khan. Ortiz has no chance what so ever of winning this fight because he isn't back mentally.
