Smoger did nothing wrong. Sure we all love Roy, but don't blame this **** on Smoger.

A late stoppage is MUCH better than an early stoppage, yes even if it's RJJ and yes even if the fighter gets knocked out cold.

This is boxing and Roy knew the risks and so do all fighters, and Smoger is an AMERICAN refereee and thank GOD he reffed this bout. If you wanna see the pathetic politically correct early stoppages go to the UK. They barely even let the fighters... fight over there.

Referee Steve Smoger has fallen under fire over his delayed reaction to stop the fight between Roy Jones Jr. and Denis Lebedev On Saturday night at the Dynamo Arena in Moscow, Russia, Lebedev baldy hurt Jones with a combination in the final minute of the tenth and final round. Jones was seemingly out on his feet and slumped forward with hands down to his waist, but Smoger allowed the action to continue, and then Lebedev landed a crushing hook which sent Jones crashing to the canvas on his face and unconscious.

I don't know if I believe that excuse, but it is still wrong to blame Smoger imho.

smoger and lebedev (for the last punch) did nothing wrong. it's solely on jones for still fighting when his punch resistance, legs, and reflexes are completely gone.

I'd love to know why he didn't grab RJJ like he's supposed to. He just let Roy fall face first onto the canvas...

The stoppage I don't have a problem with, but I think he caused unnecessary damage to Roy by letting him fall after stopping the fight.

Well he didn't grab RJJ because that would've mean that he was stopping the fight. He let Roy fall down to give him a chance to get up while he was doing the count, until he realized that he was completely KO'd.

Yeah I think it was a bad decision but it's not something to crucify him for. He had to make a very quick decision and he wanted to give Roy a chance to finish the fight.

Referee didn't let Danny Green finish Roy in their fight , after that Roy was complaining about early stoppage . Smoger sure knew that and as an ultimate professional let everything got settled in the ring this time . No second guesses now .

Being 30 feet away vs. 1 foot away from the fight makes a difference.

Unless you're ******ed or something, it was pretty clear that Jones was out. Jones is no stranger to these KOs, so should have been prevented to go on that far.

People are just expressing their pity over Roy. But if it was just another fighter, I don't know if they still care over what Smoger did.

Agreed, a late stoppage is better than an early one. I'm sad for Roy, but he knows the game.
