The weight could be a problem if there is no catchweight but Cotto has way to much experience, skills, and even at 160 I expect him to take much of his power since he will probably come in at 153-154 on the weigh in and come on fight night 162-164. Chavez JR has fought bums his whole career, his skills are not good and his punching power for a 160 fighter is way below average. Cotto by late TKO or UD.

by saying this i think Cotto is showing he is NOT willing to fight the real elite of the middleweight division. I know for a fact a Martinez vs Cotto would generate money! But Cotto knows Martinez will make him look old and washed up. Martinez is the guy that everyone is scared to fight. point blank.

Again, why not fight Angulo in PR? or maybe Cintron in PR, that'd be a huge deal on the island. right?

Not at all, it could be a very entertaining fight.

Good post. Arum is milking Cotto. Cotto hasn't fought anyone legit since Pac.

Cotto is moving up in weight, why would he go right for Martinez? Why not try his hand against a guy who will have a 0, even if it is a vastly overrated 0. Cotto-Martinez will make money, but it makes more if Cotto beats Chavez Jr, and that's assuming Cotto even beats him. You can criticize Cotto for not taking the Martinez fight, but if he did we'd all just criticize Martinez for fighting someone smaller than him, no? Isn't that what happened when Cotto's name was thrown around as a possible opponent for Martinez? Chavez Jr. is bigger than Cotto, but not as good, Cotto is smaller by more talented. It has potential. Why blame Cotto for taking a fight where he'd just get KO-ed, how's that in his interest? We don't want fights where the outcome is pre-determined, that's what we always hate.

I'm a big Cotto fan but I'm not keen on this fight. I don't like guys cherry-picking titles in other divisions rather than facing legit challenges. I didn't have a problem with the Foreman fight, especially coming off of a loss, but Mayorga and now this...

Cotto's career seems to be winding down and that's fair enough, but I wouldn't want to see him follow the Floyd-Pacquaio model of winning multiple paper division titles without facing the best (ie. Martinez).

Plus, if he wins, anyone else think Arum will try and do Cotto-Pac II for the MW title? Which would be ridiculous.

Why should Cotto fight Martinez 1st? Cotto will fight Chavez and still generate $$$ and if impressive possibly Maravilla? It makes "$$$" sense. Maravilla is no "MP" and with Steward in Cotto's corner, I wont count him out to be an effective counter puncher especially now being Cotto's has new followers with WV2,JML both recently losing.

Then why go to 160? Is he going to 160 for one fight and then back down to 154 ala Pac? Or is he going to 160 to campaign for good? We don't even know how good he is at 154, let alone 160. Why is Cotto allowing Arum to throw his name in the mud by taking on the least quality opponent to gain a title? Why is Cotto letting Arum turn him into a Latino RJJ Jr, FMJ Jr, or Pac?

You go up and go hard by getting the legit title or just stay where you belong.
