Martinez has reach but he is way shorter than anyone worth fighting at 168 and he would be outweighed by like 10 pounds on fight night.
So its OK for Pac to fight Martinez but not Martinez fighting the SMW fighters.

correct. he has already been champ at 154, and 160; only logical place to go is 168 if you really are fighting "to be the best" like you say over and over again. . . and sergio constantly says this

Comen on Sergio. I think you could beat nearly all the big players up at SMW, with a hell of a couple of incredibly good fights with Ward and Bute. Just go for it!!!!!!
TBH, and no disrespect to you, but Martinez would be at such a disadvantage against those guys. Bute is anywhere between 182-185 on fight night and Andre Ward actually is up there as well.

Not only will he be giving up 15-20lbs on fight night, those guys are pretty quick themselves, along with carrying more punching power then Martinez. Sergio would be in a ****load of trouble against anyone those elite super middleweights.

        just image
        Bute 6-2 185lbs
        Martinez 5-10 166lbs

Then combine Bute's technique, skill and punching power....I just can't see Martinez lasting long. People won't realize how much bigger those guys are until Martinez steps in the ring with them (which will never happen).

I agree. Some of those guys get in the mid 180's and possible even close to 190. Martinez barely weighs the SMW limit on fightnight, and I see him getting demolished against guys like Dirrell, Ward, Froch and Bute.

How many mandatories will this guy duck and dodge? And less than 2 years ago he said that the only way he could go to 154 is if he cut off a leg.

He is so scared of Pirog its not even funny.

Giving up 2-3 inches doesn't make him way shorter than those guys. Hell, he gave up 5-6 inches against Williams and he seemed to cope with the height difference rather well. If Sergio wanted to try his hand at 168, I'm sure he can be successful. His ability to cope with the size disadvantage and take Pavlik's punch pretty well is a good indication of this.

Not sure but I think upper 160's or mid 170's. These SMW's are walking around at 185 or 190...maybe more. Their frames are just gonna be bigger just as Martinez's frame would be bigger than Pac's.

I think he should stay around 157 so he can fight at MW, and dip down for the bigger names at 154.

154-160 is where he should finish his career at because another thing not mentioned is a lot of those SMW will be moving up soon (possible after the super 6).

In that range (154-160) there are guys like Angulo, Pirog, Sturm, Cotto, just to name a few.

Pavlik was pushing Martinez around when they fought. His reach and distance fighting approach allows him to "fight tall" even though he is shorter. Their shoulders will be wider, legs longer, and they will likely be able to push him around.
