Dude, if Sergio can still make 154, you are being a little silly arguing that he should be fighting at SMW.
From back then, Hopkins wasn't struggling to make weight when he fought Tarver. He hired a trainer/nutrionist for going up to 175.

Martinez could likely make 154 but didn't he say that he had a hard time making 154. Even of a fight against Pac with a catchweight, he said 155. I have nothing against Martinez, his been impressing me when he beat Pavlik and Williams. Its ******ed to say that Sergio being too small at smw doesn't mean he will lose to all smw top fighters.

It is hard work, but according to his team Sergio can still make 154.

No he did not. Martinez called out Pac at 154 when Manny was the WBC champ, and he called out Mayweather at the same weight. 155 was for Cotto, with Sergio's middleweight belt on the line.

The potential matchup with Pac, would be at JMW, 154lbs.

I never said that he would lose at SMW, I said that it is ******ed to insist that he should fight at 168, when Martinez can still make 154.

This is a pointless debate imho, because CLEARLY, Sergio is no SMW.

Not only will he be giving up 15-20lbs on fight night, those guys are pretty quick themselves, along with carrying more punching power then Martinez. Sergio would be in a ****load of trouble against anyone those elite super middleweights.

        just image
        Bute 6-2 185lbs
        Martinez 5-10 166lbs

Then combine Bute's technique, skill and punching power....I just can't see Martinez lasting long. People won't realize how much bigger those guys are until Martinez steps in the ring with them (which will never happen).
No he is not and stop making **** up.

Martinez gave his weights in the middle of training camp for the PW II and Dzinziruk fight. He was 174 and 176 a month away from the fight. He must walk around at about 180.

Martinez was 170 or 171 in the ring vs Dzinziruk

Froch fight night against AA was 170 and has stated tht he doesn't cut weight.

Ward has said something similar, that he doesn't cut weight he just loses a few lbs in training camp.

Kessler i haven't heard him say but i can't imagine he's any heavier than those two, he has a smaller frame than Froch and his shoulders, back, arms are all smaller.

All those guys are a reasonably similar size to Martinez and in the ring they would all weigh within a pound or two of eachother.

Bute comes in the ring at around 182 but so did Pavlik. There is no reason Martinez shouldn't be fighting them. Diaconu, Cloud, Johnson are top LHW's that are 5'10 and Martinez has more reach than every SMW.

CLEARLY, Martinez is not a SMW, or even close.

He is a large JMW who can still make 154.

155 was for Pac not Cotto.

Promoter Lou DiBella has responded to the recent comments that were made by Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank. During a recent interview with BoxingScene.com's Lem Satterfield, Arum said that he believed Manny Pacquiao would beat Sergio Martinez, but his fighter would be putting himself at a great disadvantage with respect to the difference in size and weight.

Why the *** would Sergio insist upon 155? He wanted to challenge for Manny's JMW title, so 155 makes no sense at all.

155 offer was for Cotto, so that he could challenge for Martinez' MW strap.

The handlers of WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez are still trying to finalize a deal for a title defense against unbeaten Sergei Dzinziruk on March 12 in New York City. Should everything work out in March, Martinez would like to face WBA 154-pound champion Miguel Cotto next.
