Is Pacquiao bad for boxing?

http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7032610nBaahahaha it was a 13 minute segment...so yeah...lets assume they are doing 45 minutes of airtime and 15 minutes of commercials roughly 1/3rd of the show would be dedicated to Pacquiao. So you are arguing that if Pacquiao had followed someone other than the President that 14 million people would have tuned it to see Pacquiao? Secondly, even if they changed the channel or tuned out, they still would have registered as having watched the show by the time the Pacquiao interview came on. I am sure most people would finish watching the show however, I always do. Ok let me jot this down. You are predicting that 14 million or more people will watch 60 minutes when Pacquiao is on it this time? 60 Minutes is probably the most popular news show, I watch it occasionally. I am interested to see what numbers it does this time.
Going by that then you are indeed correct...but Tiger Woods and plenty others are the actual "highest paid athletes" in the world. And Endorsements count as yearly earnings and they being paid. So no, Pacquiao isn't the highest paid athlete in the world.I'm just going by guaranteed pay (salaray or purse) as reported by ESPN for 2010, doesn't take into account any bonuses or endorsements. A-Rod and Pac were tied at the top of the list at $32 million earned.
Americans don't care. 60 minutes demographic is old people. I said he isn't that popular here compared to most American athletes and he isn't...I stand by what I said. He isn't even the most well known boxer in the world. He is probably the 2nd most famous though.Just pointing out your fallacious 'logic' when you say Americans don't care about Pacquiao but the FACTS say otherwise. If no one in the U.S. cares about him, no one told his accountant or CBS, ABC, Showtime, HBO, Jerry Jones, Steve Wynn, etc.
Also this whole "Pacquiao meets *****" thing. The president does photo ops everyday with people. It isn't like ***** wanted to meet with Pacquiao to discuss foreign policy...they shake hands, take some pictures, photo op over.
Don't forget that ***** met with Floyd long before he ever met with Pacquiao. It is photo ops plain and simple.Last edited by Saddlebred; 04-28-2011, 12:51 PM.Comment

How can someone blinded by hate see the truth? Your hopeless. check the poll out, without checking I already know where your vote is... I hate floyd and manny I said it on the 2nd page already.
Also look at google trends for manny pacquiao compared to other people
Manny, Tiger, Brett Favre, and Lebron James just in the United States.
Pacquiao v Floyd (obv Pacquiao is more popular than that deuche)
Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather
Football, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, UFC
http://www.google.com/trends?q=footb...ate=all&sort=0of those 5 boxing is the least popular. I stick by my point that boxing virtually means nothing to the united states. Manny Pacquiao included.Last edited by Saddlebred; 04-28-2011, 01:16 PM.Comment

the announcers always say something to the effect of,
"this is just like a great championship fight in boxing, back and forth they go, beating each other up and we all get to watch until somebody gets knocked out".
You're point is dull, null and void.Comment

They say "two heavyweights going at it" they don't say "two junior welterweights going at it with a catchweight." It is called a saying...it has been used for decades. They also say "the ball is in his court now" so does that mean tennis is also hugely popular? I do believe it is your point that is quite menial.Yet, when a great contest between two teams is highly entertaining,

"The ball is in his court", can be used for a variety of sports. They say "two heavyweights going at it" they don't say "two junior welterweights going at it with a catchweight." lol tennis not hugely popular. That **** is big. Just because you don't watch something, doesn't mean its not popular. Just as with your example of watching Sports Center. So they don't show nightly highlights of boxing, big deal.
They have a show dedicated to the sport.
You, talking about anyones points being menial, is the funniest thing said in this thread today. And you've said some ridiculously funny ones.Comment

I play tennis all the time, I am saying it is another sport that has waned in popularity in the USA since the 80s...Boxing and Tennis have both fell off as far as the popularity in the US goes."The ball is in his court", can be used for a variety of sports.

Ok SportsCenter shows what the american sports fan is interested. Understand? I watch tennis and Friday Night Fights and all the HBO and Showtime boxing. But the average american sports fan doesn't give a damn about any of those. As is represented by the attention given to them on SportsCenter Could.I.Make.Myself.Any.Clearer?Last edited by Saddlebred; 04-28-2011, 01:31 PM.Comment

Hell, horse racing is more popular in the United States than Manny Pacquiao is. Horses have also been on 60 minutes numerous times.
