Who has the better resume Sugar Ray Leonard or Manny Pacquiao?

I didn't say because he didn't fight trilogies. I said the guys in that era did not fight each other but 1 time usually.
On him I said his short career. Of those 4 fighters, he's the only one who only fought the others 1 time each, so he also does not have as many HOF fights. And to see him ranked above Hearns is ridiculous IMO (if you look over all of Hearns accomplishments in his career).
That directly impacts all time rankings. He retired early. Longevity has something to do with all time rankings, as well as the # of fights you have had. Usually the more fights, the more likely you will have had some good and great competition in there.
I didn't say because of that he shouldn't be. I said for all the clamor of that era, it's interesting there was only 1 trilogy among them and only 1 rematch. But trilogies are part of longevity, greatness, accomplishment.
You say this with the caps, but look at Leonard's competition outside of the big 3 opponents.
Donny Lalonde? Kevin Howard? Ayub Kalule? David Greene? Bruce Finch? Larry Bonds? Granted, some of these guys held 1 belt (some of them had none). But this was during SRL prime. (None of those guys are HOF, or all time greats).
The only great fighter on SRL list outside of those guys was Wilfred Benitez.
Of course by the same token Manny has fought some guys....
Héctor Velázquez, Óscar Larios, David Díaz, Jorge Solís, Fahsan Por Thawatchai. Who while maybe title holders, obviously aren't all time greats.
Though he has fought some guys who I think could end up being something or not. Hatton held multiple weight belts, as does Cotto, Margarito. And Clottey could yet prove to be something.
He only truly fought 4 HOF guys. Manny has fought 4 true HOF guys about to be 5 HOF fighters. JMM, Morales, MAB, DLH, Mosely will all be in the Boxing HOF.
Me entire point is it is not as clear cut an argument. And we often romanticize greats. Outside the 4 HOF fighters, Sugar Ray (I don't believe from looking) did not fight one multiple weight division belt holder. I mean, it's actually kinda shocking how light the competition was outside of these other HOF fighters and if you look at some of the fights, how much trouble some of these guys gave SRL who were not very good.
Quality is much more impressive then QUANTITY when it comes to RESUMES. Hagler fought the best during his ERA, it don't matter how LONG he fought, what is more important is that when he fought...HE FOUGHT THE BEST!
Stuff like Boxrec has a lot of current boxing fans confused, they go back and look at records and names and just assume because they are not familiar or never heard of certain fighters...they must not be that good...that is the BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION when people look back and someones career. All people do is look for the names they heard of, then when they don't see the names they are familiar with they go to Boxing Forums and start labeling Boxing Legends "OVERRATED".
I think SOME Pacquiao fans just don't want it to be "CLEAR CUT" simply because THEY ARE FANS! But it is very clear cut and the ONLY reason why it is clear cut is because off those other LEGENDS that SSL had on his RESUME. It is not Manny fault at all that his ERA had GOOD FIGHTERS and HOF but NOT MANY LEGENDSComment

Oscar has more titles in different weight classes than everyone except Pacqiauo.
Do you rank him #2?
Pac has more wins but Leonard has better wins.
Better>>>More.
Leonard fought in a better era than Pac and has better wins than Pac.
He is greater than Pac. Get over it.
if its always true that, better >>>> more ...then you beleive lamotta>>>>>srl?.....Comment

Above JW he has won bull**** titles manipulated to give him an advantages , what does that make the titles worth , paper value only !!Comment

The boxing world is stunned by what Pac has done, so of course Pac is seen as more succesful. Nobody is amazed at what SRL did, just respect him for what he did.
SRL beat some good fighters, but no dominant performances where their face look like elephant men. He beat them in close, cat and mouse type fights. Not like against Cotto who started to run from Pac.Last edited by hugh grant; 04-24-2011, 06:59 PM.Comment

And no I don't believe Lamotta>> Robinson.
Because Robinson not onnly has more top wins than Lamotta but much better wins aswell.Comment

I didn't put Marquez because he was #2 offically but only to Pac, so I later included him.
So the orginal statment was all except one. Which is common terminolgy.Comment

puga, your major failing is that Leonard not only has better quality wins than Pacquiao, but has just as many or more meaningful wins.
Mayweather #5 at WW
Shields #3 at WW
Muniz #6 at WW
Gant #4 at WW
Ranzany #6 at WW
Price #10 at WW
Green #8 at WW
Kalule #1 at LMW
Finch #6 at WW
LaLonde #5 at LHW
add in his wins over Hearns, Duranx2, Benitez, and Hagler, and Leonard has just as many top quality wins as Pacquiao does, since Pacquiao has about 13 or so wins over top competition.Comment
