Vic is talking confident due to his well deserved big win at welter weight.
Seems like Vic feels more comfortable at 147.
He fought Maidana at 139-3/4. Now if Maidana stepped up and challenged Vic at 147, then we might see if it was actually a fluke or not.
Who knows? Maidana might even be stronger at 147.
All it takes is a rematch to find out.
sorry I don't buy this
the first fight wasn't a fluke just because Ortiz has had success at 147
when he and Maidana fought they were both legit 140lb fighters
he and Ortiz went to war and when all was said and done the annoited champion that Ortiz was supposed to be going into this fight was punished to the point where he quit in front of a bunch of his own fans.
as much as I think Ortiz' win last weekend was great, what I just described above was utter ownage.
nothing flukey about that. Also had Maidana went down to also ran status like say Bredis Prescott is then we could make a case in saying the win was a fluke
Actually, the fight was stopped on cuts. The BS about Vic "quitting" was started by Max KKKellerman the hysterical Mexiphobe.
you're not telling the whole story
the doctor left it up to Ortiz as to whether he wanted to continue because he felt the cut was not bad enough to stop the fight and Ortiz did not want to continue
I know, right? Victor is starting to sound a lot like Amir Khan. Some times these fighters are not doing themselves any favors when they open their mouths up like that.
Who knows if Vic could even beat Maidana in a rematch (I don't know that Victor would actually take it now) but what happens if he loses for a second time against Maidana (and that could realistically happen)? How ludicrous would he look then? I mean really, how silly would he look, after saying Maidana is nowhere near his own caliber and will never be champion material, if he lost to him AGAIN in a rematch? It's like the way Khan talked about McCloskey after their fight, but atleast Khan won that one. Victor lost to a guy he basically says is a bum. He doesn't even realize how bad that makes HIMSELF sound. [/QUOTE]
I concur with your analysis. Hes apparantely not very smart.
Someone remind this fool that he didn't only got his a4s whoop by Maidana, he QUIT like a lil B!TCH too. HA..He needs to shut the **** up and show respect when it comes to his Daddy.
One good tough win against an overrated berto now he thinks he's the ****.......idiota~!

That's what I would actually like to see happen - I'd like to see Maidana move up to 147. It seems like Maidana is always struggling with the weight before weigh in, and has to dehydrate himself too much to make weight, which I think is a big reason he has such stamina issues during his fights. Victor definately shouldn't go back down in weight to rematch Maidana so hey, lets see if Maidana can have some new found energy and vigour at 147. I definately think a rematch is warranted, but realistically only at 147lbs.
And who knows what will happen, should either one win, eventually they can set themselves up for these other 140's who are planning to move up - like Amir Khan and Timothy Bradley. I don't think any of them are quite ready for May or Pac just yet, but atleast we have some good competition potentially moving up in weight for more options for May or Pac to fight in the future.
Ortiz fears The Reaper aka The Mercenary aka Magin Buu aka El Chino.
Maidana is his Freddy Kruger. Someone should Photoshop that.
At 147, Ortiz absolutely murks Maidana. He would break him.
If that fight gets made, I will be lookin to bet
Vic had Maidana ***ed at one point in that fight, it was in the bag.
Boxing is a learning curve, and it looks like Ortiz has turned the corner.
He should not be looking back at Maidana.
IF, chino wants to come to 147, Vic should accomodate him as a stay-busy.
Otherwise, Vic should be looking at Pac.
Vic is on top of his game right now, and clearly most posters do not understand how important that is. Confidence and self-belief are HUGE to a fighter, and Vic is ready to go.
Losing to Pac will have no negative effect whatsoever on his career, so long as Ortiz puts on a good performance, and that payday could get away from him if he sits on the fence waiting.
If Vic gets the opportunity he should, and will, take it.
