SRR is the greatest ever just for fighting under the old rules that today's fighters would cry about. SRR dominated in an era where you could do just about anything in the ring. Now that's toughness.
Greatest fighter of all time. Sugar Ray Robinson or Manny Pacquiao?

I remember the big fuss when Robinson walked away from a return fight with Basilio because he wanted more money. He was being offered,I think, $350,000. He demanded $500,000 or the fight was off... OFF.
He gor it. And there lies the root of Basilio's hatreed of Robinson, who, after that fight swore he'd NEVER fight hm again. Robinson was very difficult to deal with and since the news often was full of how boxing would be better off without prima donnas like Robinson, it was no surprise when, in his fight with Fullmer at age just touching 40, it was scored a draw, instead of a clear Robinson win. The powers that be then, couldn't stand that Robinson would once more be in control of the Middleweight crown.
The newsmen and ringside observers were nearly unanimous in saying that Robinson won the fight 11-4, which was the score I had myself. it was as clear as glass. They just wanted to get rid of him. Even the ref, who scored in those days, had it 11-4 for Robinson.Comment

there is no footage of his welter weight career but quite a bit middleweight footage is around.
in regard to the thread - pacquiao is not nearly as accomplished as robinson. i would find it difficult to put manny in the top thirty at this point. he's also my favourite fighter.Comment

There are certain things that SRR did that Pac cant replicate, like fight so often. But the attributes that are attributed to SRR are also attributed to Pac. Like Chin, punch power, speed, footwork, balance. Has Pac ever been dropped on the chin btw, and look at the calibre of fighters hes faced?
But there are things Pac does that SRR couldnt do, and i can see with my own eyes. SRR wouldnt have knocked Hatton out in 2 rounds at WW, because he didnt a lot of WW with less ability than Hatton, he wouldnt have made Cotto and Margarioto look like elephant men and controlled them as easily as Pac did. I could go on. Could SRR stop Morales?
Pac has done things i dont thin SRR could have done. SOme of the mind boggling things SRR has done, dont tell me Pac wouldnt have. Pacs proved people wrong enough times to play that game.Last edited by hugh grant; 04-23-2011, 03:40 PM.Comment
