Who's the greatest offensive fighter...

hardly one of the greatest finishers ever when most of his meaningful stoppages came from a corner stoppage scenario. props to him for being very accurate, but give me a break.

not to mention Floyd rarely had flat KO punches, even at 130lbs where he was the most offensive.

Finishing is finishing. I'd rather be knocked out than have my corner or the ref save me. Ive seen many more ref and corner stoppages than 10 counts since Ive been watching boxing. I know I'd rather have a deadly left-hook over a pull-counter any day of the week. Far more versatile and it actually ends fights. And I'm pretty sure guys like Cotto, Tito, Frazier...etc. would agree.

You're changing the subject. All those guys took horrible beatings at one point or another. Their left hooks didnt mean much while they were on their ass. No hate just truth. Floyd doesnt have a bad left hook either.

When Floyd lets his hands go like he did against Mosley last year, and the Late Gatti as well as the late Chico Corrales, he has amazing offense, when it gets into a rhythm and starts to do all his little tricks and his pull counters and that lead right when he hits you with a quick POT shot and then makes you miss him...you DON'T have to like the guy but the man has SKILLS

Pacquiao has a relentless attack...yeah yeah it is not "TECHNICALLY SOUND"...BUT IT WORKS!!! Granted Clottey was a sitting target but the workrate in that fight was very impressive

as for the past legends...I did not like this man at all because i was a Duran and Hagler fan...BUT SUGAR RAY LEONARD had an amazing offensive attack especially when he threw those Flurry Of Punches at the end of rounds to try and steal rounds

Terry Norris was a guy that could do it ALL OFFENSIVELY, same for Roy Jones as a few people already mentioned those two

James Toney, Counters & Uppercuts INSIDE was a THING OF BEAUTY to watch, you think you got him hurt and then he just comes storming back with those quick uppercuts

Aaron Pryor!!! When he had you hurt...PUNCHES WOULD COME FLYING FROM ALL OVER THE PLACE

So many others as well, it is no way you can just pick one, Larry Holmes also had great offense

His left hook is a far more useful tool. But anyways this thread is about offensive fighters, something that Floyd is not.

Why has nobody mentioned Toney!?! His in-fighting was truly spectacular! Not only that he should be considered the most accurate fighter of all time. How many people have 400+punches LANDED in a fight...all the while maintaining a near 50% connect rate.

That is such a silly statement Im not sure what to make of it.

Mayweather is very good offensively when he needs to be. but to pretend he is one of the greatest ever is ludicrous. you act as if clean KOs dont add to your offensive ability. you dont even think knockouts matter, and Mayweather has has only had one stoppage since 2005. even at 130lbs its not like he knocked everyone out. his power is not the greatest of all time either. did I mention were talking about the greatest offensive fighters of ALL TIME?

I do agree with the rest in terms of the left hook being a better tool but the pull counter is a pretty useful tool to have in your arsenal.

You know I was going to mention Toney. But then I thought although Toney had an excellent offense, especially on the inside with beautiful beautiful combos and accuracy I just thought he isn't an offensive fighter so to speak and that's all I was using.

But good shout, Toney has some beautiful offense.

Don't recall anyone really staggering or knocked down from his pullcounter but I'm only thinking of the past 6-8 years, didn't see every single one of his fights, I'm sure some one may have be hurt but the whole nature of the punch is to throw your opponent off mentally, its not that powerful of a punch unless you catch them on their way in (but then its not a pullcounter).


Had to give the big boy a shot out, he wasn't a defense always first kinda guy, he let his hands go for a "defensive" fighter.

Toney and Mayweather's offense are night and day. Both are considered defensive fighters, however, Toney lets his hands go in ways Mayweather never has. And I was speaking of his inside fighting, not his defense. Get off Floyd's nutts, its embarrassing.

I'm willing to bet if you asked any great fighter or their trainer if they would trade those punches in the face for a pull counter it would be unanimous.

trade what? this topic is about great offensive fighters who are/were good at punching their opponents face and not good at taking punches. take a good look at the topic at hand and don't let your big manlove for floyd overcome your reasoning.
